Marylanders flock to buy guns at rate of 1,000 a day

Marylanders have been rushing to buy guns at a rate of 1,000 a day over the past two weeks, hastening the pace of an unprecedented surge in gun sales.

More than 102,000 gun purchase applications have been submitted so far this year — twice the number for all of 2011, state police said Monday.

"It's like Prohibition," said Rick Kain, a gun owner from Howard County. "People want to get their guns before the law takes effect."

Maryland's tough new gun control law takes effect next week, banning the sale of assault-style rifles and requiring fingerprints and a license to buy a handgun. This month, a swarm of requests hit the Maryland State Police background check system at a pace roughly seven times that during the same time last year.

State Sen. Nancy Jacobs, a Harford County Republican, has bought two more handguns this year — one with an extended magazine. She said she understands why her constituents are making a last-minute rush to avoid complying with the law's new requirements.

"It's going to make it so much more difficult for law-abiding citizens to get firearms without jumping through a million hoops," Jacobs said. "Everyone's trying to get their guns."(continued)

Can’t buy handguns in another state... it’s been that way nationally since 1968.

Q: May a licensed dealer sell a firearm to a non-licensee who is a resident of another State?
http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/licensees-conduct-of-business.html#out-of-state-resident

A: Generally, a firearm may not lawfully be sold by a licensed dealer to a non-licensee who resides in a State other than the State in which the seller’s licensed premises is located. However, the sale may be made if the firearm is shipped to a licensed dealer whose business is in the purchaser’s State of residence and the purchaser takes delivery of the firearm from the dealer in his or her State of residence. In addition, a licensee may sell a rifle or shotgun to a person who is not a resident of the State where the licensee’s business premises is located in an over-the-counter transaction, provided the transaction complies with State law in the State where the licensee is located and in the State where the purchaser resides.

I will not go to an anti 2nd Amendment state again of my own free will. The only exceptions for this would be a trip required because of work or some of family commitment that I can’t accomplish through the mail, via the Interwebz, or over the phone. I will never live in again such places and I will not take vacations in such oppressive places.

Oh, I guarantee as long as you have the cash you can buy a handgun pretty much anywhere you darn well want...(through a private transaction NOT a licensed dealer)

The Freak State does their own 7 day background check, now backlogged to over 100 days. THey finally began to allow dealers to give people the guns they bought if the check wasn’t done within the 7 days the law allows. Next, they began using temp labor to process the background checks, including access to private data. Next, they tried to say that people purchasing but not receiving guns before 10-1 would have to perform the same licensing and classwork required for purchases past 10-1. Yea, that got shot down too, much of it thanks to the few conservatives like Nancy Jacobs. She’s somewhat an aquaintance of mine and fights the good fight every day.
