LIVE Thread: Senate cloture vote. Guess the number of RINOs that vote to support "Dingy" Harry
C-span 2

Posted on 09/27/2013 6:59:01 AM PDT by ken5050

Senate just came into session. Happily, Dingy Harry is sparing us any commentary early on this morning, as is McConnell. Debate goes until 12:10, at which time there is 30 minutes reserved for majority and minority leaders , then the vote. Will there be any more GOP intramural fireworks on the senate floor?

Right now that are voting to strip the defund out and restore funding for OCaire. This is a show vote, the real vote was the cloture vote.

I don’t agree that this proves they want obamacare.

That is your supposition.

Every one of these is a coward.

They are literally terrified of what will be said of them, that they voted to “shut down the government”.

And, many, not all of them, hate Ted Cruz and hate the little people that comprise the Tea Party.

These we can be sure of.

No way to be sure that they want obamacare.

You’re entitled to your opinion. But it isn’t a fact.

They are expecting a watered-down bill to come back from the House. They want to vote in whatever way that it cannot be said of them, they voted to “shut down the government”.

And they want to stick it to Ted Cruz.

(Which makes the GOP base love Ted Cruz more.)

Very well said. I believe the McCain types also hate Cruz because he is manifestly a man of high character. They, in contrast, are small-minded, corrupt hacks. So they hate him because he causes them to be ashamed of themselves.

They’re voting to strip the House CR of the defunding language.

They’ll send back a CR with Obamacare funding restored. Then it’s Boehner’s move.

Hope this is the birth of a viable third party.

Cruz is in the Republican Party and the best way to help him is put more people like him in that party. I think that has better prospects for success than yet another third party. Cruz is a third party within a party. That being said, we have to purge RINOs at every level of government and some of the worst sit right next to our homes on city councils.

I and others have posted time after time on this forum that the Republican Party wants obamacare as much as the Democrats do.

Each time, I was chastised and challenged to name one Republican that voted for it.
The answer was simple: the reason no Republican voted for it was they did not have to.
The Democrats controlled both Houses.

The vote today shows the Republicans that are for obamacare

yes

Where did you find a list of the no votes on cloture?

I think Ron Johnson from WI voted no too.

He had better have!

MAKE DC LISTEN: TELL YOUR SENATORS TO OPPOSE CLOTURE ON H.J. RES 59
We must oppose cloture on H. J. Res. 59, so that Harry Reid and Senate Democrats cannot sneak in funding for Obamacare. We need you to call your Senators right now: tell them to oppose cloture on H.J. Res 59 and remind them that a vote for cloture IS a for funding Obamacare.

McCain is a traitor to America, as well as everyone else in our Congress who believes the government should take control of our physical health. Won’t be long until the government says “Do this.. OR ELSE”. “STOP doing this.. OR ELSE” And then there’s FORCED IMMUNIZATIONS.. It’s shocking that people are so shortsighted that they do not anticipate the coming heavy hand of Dr. Gov’t.

Boehner does not have the votes to “sign off” on funding obamacare.

The only way he could get them is to put together the RINO cowards in the House with Pelosi’s radical Dems, and if he tries that, he is toast.

And he knows it.

Therefore, he already announced the House will not send a clean CR funding obamacare back to the Senate.

My thoughts from yesterday.

For McConnell, McCain, and others, this is not about what's best for their constituents or the people.

These people don't see the Senate as a responsibility, a calling, or an obligation. They see it as a job.

They don't see Democrats as opposition to their beliefs, they see them as co-workers.

With that mindset, the McConnells and McCains of the Senate don't want to be seen as the reason that their co-workers lose their jobs, therefore they don't want to put them into tough positions where they might be forced to go against their party, or their constituent voters.

That's why McConnell and McCain will vote FOR cloture, so they don't put their Democrat co-workers (especially "red-state" Democrats) into the position of bucking their own leadership on later votes.

That is why McConnell, McCain, and the rest MUST be voted out of Congress. They refuse to use the powers that they are given to advance the interests of those who voted for them.

I hope that primary challengers run ads quoting McConnell saying that he will do everything in his power to stop Obamacare. It's now clear that McConnell either was lying to them back then, or is weak when the time comes. How can McConnell credibly campaign back in Kentucky that he brings leadership to Kentucky when he just showed that he is a failed leader of his party?
