The Beginning of the End for Washington
National Journal ^ | 10/1/2013 | Ron Fournier

Posted on 10/01/2013 8:37:01 AM PDT by Night Hides Not

Step back. Try for a moment to extrapolate what a government shutdown and discredited U.S. currency could do to the economy and the public's faith in government. Think beyond next year's congressional elections or even the 2016 presidential race. Factor in existing demographic and social trends. I did, and this is what I concluded:

1. The Republican Party is marginalizing itself to the brink of extinction.

2. President Obama can't capitulate to GOP demands to unwind the fairly legislated and litigated Affordable Care Act. To do so would be political malpractice and a poor precedent for future presidents.

3. Despite the prior two points, Obama and his party won't escape voters' wrath. Democrats are less at fault but not blameless.

According to the author, 99% of the blame is laid at the feet of Ted Cruz and the Tea Party.

The comments are far more correct, and entertaining, than the liberal blatherings of the author.

Hopefully it is the end of Washington. Washington as we know it.

The fact that absolutely NONE of these guys have the humility to admit that they're wrong and to backtrack from a mistake is a MAJOR reason America hates their guts, IMO.

author Ron Fournier? Good grief, he’s been a democrat hack for his entire career. I won’t even read this article, even though it’s posted by a class of 1998 vet.

Construct an artificial island in the Mississippi River around, say, Keokuk, Iowa where Missouri, Illinois and Iowa meet.

All central operations in Washington get moved to the island. Those which won't fit will remain behind and turned into a national park run by the national park service as a museum and historical site. The surplus space can be leased or sold to convert into hotel rooms for the visiting tourists.

If not for Ted Cruz...the GOP would have caved to the Dems

Cruz exposed a lot of GOP who support ObamaCare

Cruz is the front runner now for 2016....and the Liberal Rove/Soros wing of GOP is well aware of it.

Gee, I guess all those years peddling propaganda for AP has made Ron’s brain even mushier than most libs. He moved onto greener pastures, unfortunately, his mind never left the liberal pigsty.

I skimmed the article...the comments, for the most part, have been highly entertaining.

The federal government is highly overrated. Fifty states will still be running, and they will adjust. Besides, with the numerous other government shutdowns, can anyone remember any catastrophic consequences? I don’t know how many government shutdowns I’ve lived through, and not a minute of my life changed because of them. Shut it down.

A major theme for the local KING 5 news station is that the Klondike Gold Rush Museum in Seattle may close due to the government shutdown.

I didn’t know there was a Klondike Gold Rush Museum in Seattle.

I didn't know the US Constitution called for a Klondike Gold museum or its funding.

Shutting down national parks such as the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Ellis Island, etc. is absolute stupidity! The cash these parks bring in more than pays for their upkeep.

How the hell do you close the grand canyon?! Rope it off with big signs saying “Looking is not allowed!”
