A great writer and patriot. Wasn’t he in D.C. for the Gathering of Eagles in 2007? I am almost positive I remember seeing a photo of him.

Very sad... 66 is far too young...

I don't remember if Tom Clancy was in DC for the Gathering of Eagles on 3/17/07. Pinging a few FRiends here... anyone else know?

Tom Clancy, RIP. He spoke to us at ITAC for an hour one afternoon back in 1991 or 92. he then signed autographs on his books that we brought from home until every one of us in line had received his autograph. I personally enjoy his 2nd book about a potential 3rd World War between NATO and the Warsaw Pact: Red Storm Rising. This was NOT one of his “Jack Ryan” novels.

IIRC, Red Storm Rising was co-written with Larry Bond, but kept that part quiet. That would make some sense, as the book does have similarities to Bond’s style of conflict development.

well, I think he was a good writer, but he ditched his long time married wife who helped him in his career of a younger, more hip woman.....okay, so he’s human.....still think he was going over to the dark side later in his life...

I want to rip the SS scheme for as much as I can, legally of course...I intend to filter my money to my kids....and I want to be able to do that for a good 20-30 yrs......we’ve so screwed the younger generations that I feel that this is something we must do...(as of right now, I don’t know if either my husband or myself will retire at 62 though)

I did not know it. However when I was a DIA back then, it was part of the required reading list for the ‘new intel analyst’ course for all new DIA folks. As an Army Captain I had already read it and told the folks to not fluff it off as it gave a good picture of what could happen and that the NATO/Warsaw Pact ground combat forces information was extremely accurate.

Ascension

And if I go,
while you’re still here...
Know that I live on,
vibrating to a different measure
—behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
so you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
—both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest.
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
...I will be there.

- Colleen Corah Hitchcock

Tom Clancy, from the dedication page of ‘Executive Orders’:

“In the orginal hardcover edition of ‘Without Remorse’ are the words of a poem which I found by accident and whose title and author I was unable to identify. I found in them the perfect remembrance for my ‘little buddy,’ Kyle Haydock, who succumbed to cancer at the age of eight years and twenty-six days - to me he will never really be gone. Later I learned that the title of this poem is ‘Ascension,’ and that the author who penned these magnificent words is Colleen Hitchcock, a poet of rare talent living in Minnesota. I wish to take this opportunity to commend her work to all students of the lyric phrase. As her words caught and excited my attention, I hope they will have the same effect of others.”

Read THfRO cover to cover (rare that I read nonfiction). Saw the movie too (my only time that I saw Connery or James Earl Jones on the big screen [I've never been a Bond connesure (sp)]). RIP Tom.

Just finished “State of Fear” and loved it! A lib actor finally got his deserved ending! Had enjoyed Crichton’s work back to Andromeda Strain. And to go back on thread I loved all of Clancy’s stuff, at least his single author thrillers. I still like his government reset idea, although there are a few more folks I want out of town than when he initially proposed it.
