This is war against us Vets. This communist King Obama is insulting you. Families of the vets should be angry as hell. This shutdown is totally the King Obama and his communists empire telling America I can do what I want. Screw you! I'm a 82 year Korean vet and not in very good health and this makes my blood boil. Damn this communists black Muslim King Obama who wants to be dictator and doing one hell of a job hurting Americans. Vets, this is war!

New wave of WWII veterans move barricades to access DC memorial
~~~~~~~~
Another version:
WWII memorial opened to vets
The National Park Service opened the World War II Memorial Wednesday to veterans visiting from around the country.
Carol Johnson, a National Parks Service spokeswoman, said the veterans' groups had been granted access Wednesday because it was deemed a first amendment demonstration.
The memorial was still closed to the public, however, and Johnson said other war memorials on the National Mall would also be closed.
But veterans could be seen visiting the Vietnam War Memorial about a half-mile away.
The memorials were closed and barricaded because of the government shutdown that began Tuesday.
Veterans arriving at the World War II memorial Tuesday encountered barriers, which were moved at some point so that they could enter the memorial. It’s not clear if they were moved by the park service or lawmakers who were present.
On Wednesday, hundreds of people visited the World War II Memorial to protest its closure. Lawmakers from both parties were also present with visiting veterans.
The memorial is generally open 24 hours.
With the government shut down, however, barricades were posted Tuesday morning. The park service explained that the memorials were closed and that the Park Service would not have people on hand in case someone was injured while visiting a memorial.
The barricades are moved. Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) said he believed the Park Service opened the gates. Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-Mich.) said the congressmen did it. Rep. Steven M. Palazzo (R-Miss.) said the barricades just seemed to part. WashPo
VOLUNTEERS could be manning these public places.
To remove the barricades, yes. But I'm not even sure how many public employees are "manning" these open air monuments when the government isn't shut down. I've heard in most cases, there aren't any.
I love that picture.
Someone with photo shopping skills should insert some 90 year old veteran in his Power Chair in front of those tanks. With the WWII Vet Memoral as the backdrop. With Obama Hopie Change stickers on the tanks.
Who would have ever guessed that someone could fight socialist facism in Europe in 1943 and 70 years later take on a new fight against socialist facism here in the USA?
May God Bless these veterans and keep them safe from the evils of bastards like Obama and Reid.
"The park service explained that the memorials were closed and that the Park Service would not have people on hand in case someone was injured while visiting a memorial. "
Listen, d***wad. If I want your help after being injured at one of your TAXPAYER PAID or PRIVATE CHARITY PAID-FOR memorials which you have illegally closed, I'll ask you for it. Until, then sit at your desk and pretend you're relevant. Don't worry, mama goobermunt will still give you a check regardless of your "furlough."
The family member of those vets is holding up a sign blaming congress as well as the White House.
This will get hijacked if people don’t stop leaning on the 90 year olds many of whom have no clue how bad our country is behaving right now voting this guy in; allowing the media full control; allowing 53 million babies to be killed in legalized abortion.
Not a clue
And it will get hijacked
The media has no love of country, no adherence to truth.
Ok, but this will backfire.
The media works for the democrats.
They are going to blame the republicans for this.
It will make your head spin, but they will do it.
And the grandchildren of these guys, some of them will help
Truth is...after illegals acts upon lies, Obama’s punishing stunt backfired and he was forced to un-punish. The blowback was too fierce.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`

The Park Police, nominally in charge of monitoring these spaces, isn’t even effected by the shutdown. Shutting off access to these sites is gratuitous and petulant.

On Monday, the first day of the government shutdown, a number of WWII veterans showed up at a memorial to their service to find that access had been blocked. The memorial is in a public space and is open 24/7, with almost no oversight from Park Police personnel. (Who, by the way, are exempt from the government shutdown.) The White House was, according to reports, informed of the veterans’ visit and chose to block access.

Having lived in DC for 18 years, I can tell you, the WWII Memorial is simply an architectural structure in an open public space. There is no official “access” to it. There are no guards. It’s a building in a park. Yet, the Obama Administration tried to block veterans from viewing the public memorial, even after hearing about the planned visit.
