It’s predicted to briefly go to hurricane, then immediately drop back to tropical storm strength before landfall. The Gulf (and Atlantic in general) doesn’t seem warm enough to support hurricanes for any length of time this year. The other two hurricanes of the season were only at hurricane strength for about one or two days before fizzling.

Thanks for the prediction info! We’ve had so much rain lately, my slogger shoes are within arm’s reach, and the fungicide is next to the door.

It also has to deal with a lot of dry air to the west and increasing shear. Both of which tend to keep tropical storms from intensifying into major hurricanes.
