Roger Hollis remains a problematic figure. Considering how snobbish British Intelligence was his drably middle class background and drab job history make him an unlikely head of MI 5. He also worked a good while in Shanghai for a tobacco company. Either he was an undercover British asset there or he was a possible communist recruit while in Shanghai. The Comintern recruited many agents there including probably Evans Carlson.
