If The GOP Forces The US To Default, Obama Should Raise The Debt Ceiling Himself
Business Insider ^ | 10-7-13 | Henry Blodget

Posted on 10/07/2013 7:37:07 AM PDT by sheikdetailfeather

As many observers have noted, the dysfunction in Washington is on the verge of becoming a full-blown crisis.

A handful of extremists in one political party have become so convinced of their own brilliance and rectitude — and so frustrated by their inability to persuade the rest of the country of it — that they are threatening to cause the United States of America to default if their demands aren't meant.

This is extortion, plain and simple.

And the Obama Administration is right not to give into it.

If it becomes legitimate for a small group of politicians on either side to threaten the country with economic disaster if they aren't bought off with concessions, America will have to deal with this extortion tactic forever.

So it's time to end it once and for all.

If the Republicans seriously want to cause the U.S. to default by not raising the debt ceiling on October 17th, let them.

Let them spend the 10 days between now and then howling and raging about how awful it is that health insurance might soon become more affordable for millions of Americans. Let them roar about how programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are destroying the country, despite the fact that most Americans like them. Let them scream, as they have every day since a Republican President left office, that our debt and deficits will soon obliterate us (never mind that the deficit is shrinking rapidly). And so on.

in order to do that he needs to declare the House and Tea Party in open rebellion.

That declaration triggers all sorts of really bad, bad things...

Listen to the rhetoric...Ted Cruz is a terrorist, arsonist, etc. They are not just using those terms for effect, they are setting the mindset that people will support the authorities when they frog march them out of congress.

Was this stand over 0bamacare stupid? No, even if this worst of worst happens for it finally removes the fascist mask.

If the capitulate? Well then they minimize themselves and the effort. They have put their ‘sacred honor’ on the line literally.

Henry Blodgett is a lying idiot. Default involves not paying interest on the debt. The USG takes in enough each month to more than meet that obligation. The shutdown does, however, force the president into a situation of deciding on what the spend the rest. It is something he is innately against because he’s a damned Democrat.

I wonder if the Republicans have the nerve to call their bluff and not raise the debt limit?

I believe this would break the grip of the Marxist's and begin forcing them into more responsible expenditures.

The irony of the left calling it extortion, when it is the Dems that are linking all government, to the funding of Obamacare. The Republicans have sent over funding bills to fund the government at bloated levels, they GOP is expressly not linking government funding to Obamacare. It is the administration and the Dems that refuse to pass government funding bills unless they also get funding for obamacare that is extortion.

. . . that they elevated a Kenyan Marxist puppet to the highest office in the land and want to force all of congress to just become his privy council.

Raise the debt ceiling. In this economy. With no manufacturing and kids coming out of college with no jobs by way over 10% or underemployed, already owing $200,000 toward the debt; paying 25% of their paychecks to SS that they know they’ll never see again, getting pushed out of the way by illegal immigrant slaves numbering way over what their owners are letting on, or jobs they’re told they won’t do.

OK when does this “economist” expect the debt to be paid?

Never? But it won’t matter because he’ll be dead? So it’s ok with him if it grows out of control?

Any debt instruments so issued should be repudiated by Congress. Any fool who buys such doubtful paper deserves to lose everything they spend.

This fight is not the good ground to fight on. The battle of the cr will play to the advantage of the Tea Party now, the debt ceiling will be raised.

Keep the focus on Obamacare the the refusal of Obama to negotiate with the House.

If you give a ‘clean’ CR it undercuts the narrative of the Left, Rinos, and elite MSM.

“Ground which can be abandoned but is hard to re-occupy is called entangling. From a position of this sort, if the enemy is unprepared, you may sally forth and defeat him. But if the enemy is prepared for your coming, and you fail to defeat him, then, return being impossible, disaster will ensue. “

Sun Tzu

If we fight on the Debt Limit which is a losing fight we will end up losing on the Obamacare fight we are engaged in and the quote above will apply. Keep up the pressure through the end of the year.

As people engage in the diaster that is Obamacare the pressure will build on the enemy.

This guy can be as top rated a Wall street analyst as his resume claims he is.

He doesn’t realize that Nordstroms would not raise my debt limit for the same reason and out of the same right that the congress has to not raise the debt limit to Obama.

It doesn’t stand up to a high school level of scrutiny.

If he’s married, his wife better handle the bill paying and make out her own tax return, separately.

If The GOP Forces The US To Default, Obama Should Raise The Debt Ceiling Himself

If the debt ceiling is not raised, this doesn't mean the U.S. defaults on the payment of interest on federal debt, it just means that money will have to be diverted from other government expenditures in order to service the debt.

These democrats are for a tyranical socialist dictatorship. They trust government and the communist tyrant Obama conpletely with everything.

why do democrats trust government?

why do so many Americans trust government?

The media brainwashed these idiots

government is totally unaccountable as the IRS , EPA, gov schools , housing projects etc prove. socialism/government doesn't work.

If you start a PRIVATE for PROFIT business then you have to produce a good product to stay in business. Not so for the IRS, EPA, gov schools etc. but people trust the gov with their lives, heaLthcare , money etc.

I take exception to the term “handful”. A handful could not do this.

The MSM wants to isolate, identify and target a few tea partiers, like all good Marxists do, but in reality, it is a clear House Majority and all be two handfuls of RINO's in the Senate allied against the President. In short, liberal/Marxist propaganda.

What nonsense. The treasury has plenty of money to buy back bonds, its just a matter of priorities.

They are saying that if we don’t give the cocaine addict all the money he desires, he will first and foremost refuse to pay the family mortgage.
