Three soldiers have been arrested over the fatal stabbing of one of their comrades in what was originally described by officers as a 'hate crime', it emerged today.
The trio were held at the weekend when one of them allegedly bragged to a friend that he had murdered somebody and cut his hand on a knife.
Tevin Geike, 20, was left for dead in a parking lot near his base in Lakewood, Washington in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Previously police said they believed the attack was racially motivated because the attackers - a group of five African American men - called Tevin a cracker, a racist term for a white person.
However, after interviews with those involved in the confrontation officers today said they no longer believed the killing to be a hate crime after speaking to everyone they believe was involved.
All the suspects are from Joint Base Lewis-McChord and served in the same combat infantry unit as Tevin.
The accused are Jeremiah Hill, 23 - the alleged murderer - Cedarium Johnson, 21; and Ajoni Runnion-Bareford, 21. Two others are still being sought.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, Tevins mother Jennifer Rose fought back the tears as she said that she had got a text from her son just hours before his death saying he was going to get a tattoo to celebrate his military graduation.
She said: Tevin trusted everybody until they gave him a reason not to trust them. He was really kind-hearted and he would give you the shirt off your back.

Workplace accident.
Black-on-white, so doesn’t meet the legal requirement for hate crime. I personally detest the entire idea of a so-called “hate crime” but as long as we have it, it should be used evenhandedly.
Obama’s got a really big family.
Oh, well, that’s OK then. /s
Why do we have to get this kind of news from the UK media?.............
Once again, the Daily Mail reports that which the American national press refuses to see.
This makes me sick. The killer should be given the death penalty.
Glad we have foreign newspapers to let us know what is going on in this country....
Well, we know what she meant to say, “the shirt off his back”.
he would give you the shirt off your back.
That would be what Obama would do, and then be
petulant because you didn’t care for being robbed.
The brothers must have felt “dissed”, so that would have justified murder to them.
I did a search on the victim's name, and I only see reports in US blogs, and local news sites.
I didn't see it reported in any of the kneepad media sites. I wonder why?
Let’s hope they are all court martialed and sentenced to hang!
The hate crime double standard is repulsive. I’m not sure why white people continue to bite their tongue regarding black racism, black murder rates, the media double standard on race, affirmative action, and on, and one regarding race matters and how white people always get the short end of the stick while being demonized as the racists. Their needs to be a collective stand taken
on these matters.
Police- “Did you kill that guy because he was White?”
Suspect- “Nope”
Police- “OK then”
“I did a search on the victim’s name, and I only see reports in US blogs, and local news sites.”
Because the US media could not publicize the incident until it had been officially ruled “not a hate crime”.
Obvious racist out of control cops.
General discharge(like navy yard shooter) with V device for ‘victim’.
Calling a white person a cracker is not racist. Why? Because it means a federal hate crime has been committed and ONLY whites can commit those. Why? Police Chief conference says blacks would evoke tribalism customs and riot. This would bring national attention and would cause millions in damages.
It’s been suggested that blacks be prosecuted for hate crimes only in the winter when it’s snowing.
