I camp. Used to be the park ranger was a big healthy man who would roll up and demand order and quiet at night. Then we started getting the urban student types and the pear-shaped ladies who wanted only to give lectures on environment and sustainability. Bureaucrats in uniform. Started with Carter, recruiting in city universities.

Yep, degrees in Forestry and have never been to a Forest until they go on class trips. I imagine a degree in Environmental Studies or things like that would open that door too.

A lot of Veterans, ranch and farm kids used to work those jobs. My brother-in-law was a Park Ranger at the Grand Canyon in the 60s, he was a cowboy before he got that job. Totally different type of people.
