House GOP Plan Would Keep Government Shut, Raise Debt Limit
Roll Call ^ | 10/10/13 | Matt Fuller and Steven Dennis

Posted on 10/10/2013 8:05:20 AM PDT by jimbo123

Updated 10:49 a.m. | House Republicans are discussing a plan that would include a six-week debt limit increase without reopening the government, sources confirmed to CQ Roll Call.

The plan would prompt another showdown with the White House, which has insisted that Republicans agree to reopen the government without partisan riders or concessions before negotiations begin.

Even tea party leader Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., seemed open to the idea. ”Well I think if that gets us to where we need to be, it may be something we need to consider, because the one thing we won’t do is put the full faith and credit of the United States at risk. It’s foolish, and I don’t think that’s going to happen,” she said.

Some conservatives, meanwhile, have continued to push this morning for attaching some GOP demands to even a short-term debt limit increase.

President Barack Obama has indicated he would sign a short-term measure provided it did not have partisan concessions added on.

Not right before CHRISTMAS, you fools!!! That was the mistake Gingrich did!!!!

If they want to extend it extend it till January 2nd and make Congress come back December 27th to work on it.

this is a good move by the House GOP leadership — get ahead of being blamed for “default” - throws Reid under the bus, as well.

Obama is already whining about this — no CR, just avoidance of default.

and, it sounds like they’ve given up on defunding Obamacare.

Where the hell did you get that? That's not in this article. Are you just determined to find bad news? This is probably, and I stress probably, a good strategy. They are winning the Obama Care delay/CR fight. KEEP UP THAT FIGHT. This is the one time where kicking the debt limit can down the road is a good idea. Keep charging up the hill we are capturing day by day.

I don’t think the debt limit is a game. Obama is a dangerous leader and will purposely default on interest payments on the debt and plunge us into a recession. He could give a rats ass about America. Neither could half of congress. He relies on the ignorant voter of which there is nearly 50% who will blame republicans and restore his power. We’re really playing with fire when when Obama is part of a strategy. You can’t defund Obamacare because it’s already funded. The vote on Reid’s desk is to delay the individual mandate for one year.

“...don’t believe the media who are practically all registered democrats”

I would venture to say that practically all are anti-American Communists.

"This is not an issue of credit rating, the United States can pay any debt it has because we can always print money to do that. So, there is zero probability of default." - Alan Greenspan (Aug 7, 2011)

The Republicans aren't giving up much, if anything.

"Check this out: ( Instead of calling themselves communists or socialists they call themselves liberals and progressives. This camouflage is very old. I never once heard my parents and their party friends refer to themselves as Communists. They were progressives – and registered Democrats.).....the expression or label "Social Democrat"...means Socialist period. Obama is more Communist than Progressive. Read the article, very interesting.

Sounds to me like Obama has privately threatened to pull this Article IV crap and raise it himself. They are trying to head him off and stop the precedent until they can come up with a better strategy.

Exactamundo. I believe that El Presidente is laying the groundwork for how he will operate after the midterms if the GOP takes the Senate in 2014. The kenyan will be in a much weaker position if the GOP controls both the House and Senate. Not that that will stop him from being the totalitarian ass that he is.

“it did not have partisan concessions added on.”

Not having “partisan concessions” is in itself a concession to the democrats. NO DEAL unless Conservatives receive concessions from democrats.

Let me submit they are not, but that they understand a lot of lo fo voters will, and this is not the time to conflate this issue with the battle they ARE winning - the CR / delay Obama Care battle. Obama would love to conflate and confuse, but this strategy short circuits that.
