Shutdown shuts down Do Not Call Registry website

Today, I got a robocall. It’s a pet peeve of mine, those calls from some mystery credit consolidation company that not only can’t pronounce my name correctly, but also picks an under-the-gun-deadline moment to annoy me.

As I’m on the National Do Not Call Registry, it’s a force of habit now to go to the website and fill out the complaint form. While it never stops the calls, just typing in the information is therapeutic. But today, the shutdown thwarted my efforts: “Due to the government shutdown, we are unable to offer this website service at this time. We will resume normal operations when the government is funded.”

Since the 0bama regime took over, the people "running" this must've been on permanent vacation, because cold calls have run rampant and nothing has been done when complaints filed.

The best solution is to have a system where you can block certain numbers.

If the NSA is going to monitor everything anyway, they could at least do something about telephone scam artists. If they were smart, it would be the perfect way for them to get some brownie points with the public (sad, but true).

It is lying crap, indeed. Anything that needs to happen - web farm synch, continuous integration, log file roll ups, db backups, should all be done automatically. A website does not need an individual sitting at a desk watching the web server. If it goes down, it goes down. Why would that be worse than putting up a new landing page blaming the shutdown? It’s all PR.

Someone has to physically change the landing page, costing more tax dollars than just leaving it alone.

Exactly right! Just like sending NPS workers out to install blockades and guard the memorial sites, monuments and parks they wanted to close because of the "government shutdown".

I have access to 5 different websites and they do not need someone there to monitor 24/7...it's all automatic.

My favorite was to call their 800 number from every phone in a bank of pay phones. It cost me nothing other than time and it cost them real money to answer each call because of the pay phone surcharge. Now just try to find a single pay phone, much less a bank of them.

The Do Not Call list has been worthless almost from the start. Our home phone and both cell phones are on it and have always received calls anyway. The telemarketing companies have found ways of going around it and there is nothing anyone can do.

"We ave been getting calls ever since Obama came into office, to an UNLISTED phone number.”

The function of the "do-not-call list was likely subverted after comrade obama took office.
