Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson condemned members of the extreme right wing of the Republican Party for holding the nation hostage during the government shutdown because they oppose the Affordable Care Act.
They have an extreme dislike for President Obama, and are willing to do anything to halt the effectiveness of his presidency, Johnson wrote in a statement to the suburban Dallas Focus Daily News on Friday.
Their behavior is not political, it is personal!
The congresswoman went on about the huge impact the shutdown has on the nation. She complained of hundreds of thousands of furloughed employees, damage to businesses relying on government contracts, and harm to veterans and hospital patients. Even the American food supply in danger, she said, due to the suspension of food inspections. Overall, Johnson stated, the shutdown is doing severe damage to the economys recovery.
There are reasonable members in both political parties who would vote to open the government tomorrow if a bill was allowed to come to the floor of the House, Johnson wrote, But the extremists are making all types of threats and insisting that such a vote not take place.
Johnson argued that a majority of the American people voted for President Obama in 2012, and by doing so, they showed support of Obamacare, his signature health-care initiative.
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, meanwhile, said Friday in a speech to the Values Voters Summit that We are engaged in a national debate about the enormous harms Obamacare is causing, all of the millions of Americans who are losing their jobs, being pushed into part-time work, losing their health insurance. He urged House Republicans to keep standing strong and listening to the American people.
When did they let old Bernice out of the looney bin? They should have warned the nation that she was free. Similar to letting Hannibal Lechter out, but without the fava beans and chianti.
Funny how it usually comes down to tribal self-identification when it comes to defending the indefensible.
Next time, let’s elect somebody who considers themselves an “American”, first, last, and always.
No hyphenated candidates need apply.
Democrats refuse to discuss the issues because they are not on solid ground regarding them. So they try to drag us in the mud by saying that we just don’t like Obama...because he’s black...blablabla. I encourage everybody on our side when we see a similar comment in the media to post a reply noting how the only people going personal are the Democrats while tea party politicians are criticizing the policies. And then remind people all the names we’ve been called: arsonists, bullies, blackmailers, terrorists, etc...
Oh oh. Rep. Johnson is onto us. We actually love Obamacare. The only reason we’re trying to stop it is because of Obama’s skin. It’s the wrong color don’t you know.
How in the world can people this ignorant get elected?
What were the attacks on Bush?
Logic free zone in her mind. Using her “logic”, anyone disagreeing with Bush from 2002-2008 would be getting personal since the majority of Americans voted for him. Funny, I don’t recall her complaining about this back then.
Polls show the that majority of Americans have been against Obamacare since 2010. Given the fiasco with the rollout of the website and the associated sticker shock, those against numbers might go up.
Let's not insult assholes.
Their behavior is not political, it is personal!
IMO, both party leaders hate each other, else they would be able to negotiate.
You bet it’s “personal” when a Fraud has been perpetrated against the American People and against our system of government via Voter Fraud —and Democratic Party inept and repugnant fail to defend the US Constitution You bet it’s personal.when any enemy foreign or domesticated has attacked my Country or our way of life it’s personal.
In that bright light, her pupils are very dilated. Wonder what she’s on?
And speaking of "personal", what can be more "personal" than politicizing health care?
