Lee Bright Scores Astonishing National Endorsement (Graham in dodo thread)
Bright For Senate ^ | 10-16-13 | Campaign Staff

Posted on 10/16/2013 11:27:29 AM PDT by C. Edmund Wright

The Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC), a group with ties to Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Jim DeMint and other prominent liberty minded and Tea Party conservatives, is officially endorsing upstate Senator Lee Bright over Lindsey Graham and others in the 2014 South Carolina Senate race. This endorsement is a startling development in the race considering national RLC’s stature, the timing of the support and the zeal with which they endorse Senator Bright.

Matt Nye, Chairman of the National RLC said in a statement that “the outcome of the South Carolina Senate race will be a major factor in determining the future of [the Republican Party and Washington DC],” adding that “Lindsey Graham represents everything that is wrong with both.” In choosing Bright over some other competitors, Nye stated that Bright is “a proven, principled advocate of individual rights, limited government and free enterprise” who “possesses both the skills and worldview we need to turn Washington, and the country, around."

The upstate Senator, who is very much at home with all liberty and Tea Party groups was enthusiastic and said RLC’s move was “an incredible boost to our campaign at such an early stage. The Republican Liberty Caucus is a terrific organization that is known for backing candidates who are passionate about defending liberty, as they were also the first to endorse Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee during their campaigns. I'm proud that my voting record in the South Carolina state Senate has earned me the privilege of this endorsement."

S.C. RLC Chairman Scott Pearson said that “Sen. Lee Bright is a friend of liberty who knows the issues that South Carolinians care about. As businessman who understands all too well the difficult economic times, Lee Bright stands for economic liberty.” Pearson also touched on Bright’s unusual ability to bring all conservatives together, adding that “as a man of faith, he stands for religious liberty; and as a man of great personal character, he stands for personal liberty. Unlike the incumbent, he brings a principled message of individual freedom that will unify, rather than divide, the Republican majority."

Why Pat Roberts? I know he is old, but during the Bush years of the Dems releasing classified material he was quietly furious and carried himself like a gentlemen given he couldn’t reveal anything, and tried to express this is not what is seems. It left a positive impression on me, please tell me of the heartburn you have with him. Thanks !

I believe if Ted Cruz can wear the Winston Churchill hat, and have the RLC throw in with Cruz, for Bright, that is the gift horse staring you in the mouth for your own investment in war horsing.

An early jump onto the Bright wagon is urgent, and cheerfully poking around under local rocks for taste testing of lesser candidates assures you of running into plenty of lo info voters.

I know I am testy today but it’s been like herding cats, with pop ups sniffing around looking for everything but unity behind a Cruz supporter, or Cruz endorsements, which Bright is both, obviously.

All these candidates have a resume but the research has most assuredly already been done, with a fine tooth comb. The Heritage Foundation, the Tea Party, the Senate Conservative Org., and now the RLC. What else do you need with a team like that any way?

Are you looking for a way out of cooperating with the main conservative force, or what?

I like Roberts. He’s been a good soldier but he is well past his ‘sell by’ date. He has become ineffectual. We need younger, more energetic and , most importantly, more articulate advocates. Pat just doesn’t get it done anymore.

I am looking to cooperate, and was all set to send money to Mace since I was hearing such great things about her - then this showed up.

I am not poking around or listening to LIV, I am trying to get accurate data from local Freepers on how to best help.

Can you give us a little help here, since I know there are several candidates who are all far better than Graham in the race? Is there something that sets Bright apart from the others?

Given that my dog is a better conservative than Lindsey Graham, I’m curious to know about Bright since all the other candidates claim to be conservatives.

Thanks for the post.

What is “astonishing” or “stunning” about a Cruz-related organization endorsing Graham’s opponent? Would anyone expect anything else?

I hope he can build on this early momentum. Graham and his minions are going to throw everything they can at him in the coming months.

I hope that he can survive the opposition research thugs that are going to try to find something to smear him with. The media in Charleston will suck up to Graham since they can’t find a viable Lib to support. The “Tea Party” is a dirty word as far as local media is concerned.

heard a lot a good stuff about Mace. I wanted to hear opinions from the locals

Nancy Mace is stooge. Her family ownership of the media site supported the fat slob blogger who claimed to have a love affair with Nicki Haley during her run for Governor.

Mace is a puppet for the Rhino/Good Ole Boys network of politicians in this state and I would never hand her the power of a senate seat just because she graduated from the Citadel. These are the same est. Republicans who will make fun of Nicki Haley on the State House floor, saying that she needs to go back to where she came from (India).

Much like Steven Colbert's sister, she thinks the Senate seat should be handed over to her because she is a women, mother, wife and favorite of the elites in her party

Graham is a better representative than Nancy Mace would be in the Senate.

Just the timing......considering there are three others besides Graham in the race....nothing else. I fully figured this group would support Bright, but I did not think they would make the decision so soon.

When they supported Cruz, he was the only non estab in his particular race.

Well, I think a good place to start is in the statements as to why both the SC and the National RLC is supporting him, and doing so this early.

Here is what I like:
A: he’s plain spoken, calls it the way it is.
B: almost uncanny ability to get major support from the social cons, the liberty cons, and the economic conservatives. THIS IS KEY.
C: proven voting record, unlike every other Lindsey challenger.
D: Just naturally a Cruz, Lee, type candidate. That’s who he is.

This is fabulous early momentum...and yes, Graham will forget about Demorats and simply run against Bright at some point. I think Bright is braced for that.

The voting record would be the proof in the pudding for me.

Thanks for the help and thank you for your e-mail, by the way.

The voting record is crucial, but the communication in real person speak, plain speaking, is very important too.

After all, LG”s voting record “on paper” is not the issue...it’s that he’s wrong on all the BIG ISSUES and he’s wrong everytime he OPENS HIS MOUTH.

Also, Boehner’s problems are also in part due to his inability to say anything that isn’t in DC speak. Both to me are crucial.

... I’m curious to know about Bright since all the other candidates claim to be conservatives.

Search: keywords 'graham primary' ... lots of threads with many comments. Yes, all are conservatives.

To my knowledge, Lee Bright is the only one of the candidates to have ever won a previous political campaign and he has a conservative record in the State Senate to run on. This makes a huge difference from my perspective.

I also ping FReeper upchuck, who has the S.C. ping list and is following this race closely.

it’s that he’s wrong on all the BIG ISSUES and he’s wrong everytime he OPENS HIS MOUTH.

Which, given that propensity, makes him a go-to guy for the LSM. It's a vicious cycle. I liken it to Mitch McConnell, who votes to move all Harry Reid's priorities to the floor and then votes against the bill to claim he's some sort of conservative.

Thanks for the help! I’m far away geographically from this race but still have support I can give for a real conservative. My own Senators, sadly, are functionally beyond hope.

...that’s ZACKLY why he’s one of the go to Pubics for the jurassic media.....and really, it’s in the media where he and McCain do the most damage.

They both manage to get their ACU voting ratings over 90%-— but it’s that damned 10% where they’re wrong that they spend all their time yacking about.

It’s why those ACU ratings are only of limited use....IMO....
