Texas Sen. Ted Cruz railed against a Senate deal to end the government shutdown and raise the debt limit, but he said to filibuster would be a pointless exercise. …

“It is about all the people across this country who are right now facing terrifying decisions, because they are losing their health care, losing their jobs, being left in the cold. And, sadly, the United States Senate has said Washington will do nothing,” he said.

“The Washington establishment is refusing to listen to the American people. The deal that has been cut provides no relief to millions of American who are hurting because of Obamacare,” Cruz added. …

“Mr. Cruz Goes to Washington”, only this time the side that kicked the kids trying to deliver the papers got plowed into the ditch and the bad guys win.

Valiant effort Mr. Cruz!

We can all tell our great grandkids how Mithc and Boehner had a chance to save our country, but they were dull-witted cowards.

This deal-
Extends debt ceiling through Feb 7(Bammy wanted a year)
FEDGUVINC is funded through Jan 15.
A new conference set up for long term entitlement reform headed by Paul Ryan and Patty Murray(starts Dec 13)
If no cuts are decided on, sequestrations remains in effect (a good thing-they really kick in Jan. 2014. actually real cut in spending, not just in rates of growth)

Not the worst possible outcome considering Cruz NEVER had the numbers .

Cruz is going to be in the Senate for at least the next 5 years, so get used to him being disruptive.

There isn't anything you can do about it.

>>The shutdown has been a huge loss for the Republicans.<<

The shutdown brought about some changes yes but I don’t consider it a loss when you force people to stand up for what they believe in. We now know who the establishment republicans are and who the independent conservative republicans are. The trick now will be remembering where we put the list when the elections come around.

Thanks Barnacle. I know lots of FReepers want to WIN and are dedicated to that objective. I have no patience for those who just want to glory in a single act of defiance, and then watch the conservative cause come crashing down. I want a smarter strategy that will build support for our cause.

Smith: I guess this is just another lost cause, Mr. Paine. All you people don’t know about lost causes. Mr. Paine does. He said once they were the only causes worth fighting for. And he fought for them once, for the only reason any man ever fights for them. Because of just one plain, simple rule: “Love thy neighbor.”

And in this world today full of hatred, a man who knows that one rule has a great trust. You know that rule, Mr. Paine. And I loved you for it — just as my father did. And you know that you fight for the lost causes harder than for any others. Yes, you even die for them — like a man we both knew, Mr. Paine.

You think I’m licked. You all think I’m licked! Well, I’m not licked. And I’m going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause, even if this room gets filled with lies like these; and the Taylors and all their armies come marching into this place. Somebody will listen to me.

The shutdown was a huge loss for the Republicans

IT WAS NOT. It's the end of the RINOs who were exposed as traitors and saboteurs. It puts Cruz and those who coalesced around him out front warning us of the Obamacare disaster. The RINOs now share the blame for it, along with the dems.

It's a win that just might save the Republican Party if we get rid of the RINOs and the pro-globalist elitist corporate profiteers. Now maybe we'll stop supporting people who aren't conservative, don't care about the Constitution, and only care about constitutional conservatives during election season. And now, we know for sure who they are.

And the existing sequestration levels remain in effect during the mean time. Not a bad deal at all, when you consider that the individual mandate kicks in in January, too. Lots of folks are going to be pissed about obamacare then.

The CS’ers in the Senate sold us out

When our football team (local HS) started out two years ago (new private school), they lost every game by like 40 50 even 60 points.

There was one game they won. they referred to it as
the game we won’, of course.

Would it have been right to tell them to forfeit every game? They were small, had a lousy coach and some wannabee Texas cheerleaders (and their moms, yikes).

Did they go onto the field and say ‘eh, no coach’?

If not, why not?

It was courageous of them to get out there. They had a goal which did not involve winning that particular game.

Duh.

Two years later they are as no undefeated.

Lost their best player last year, even.

Undefeated after seven games. Same league.

I think there is a lot of merit to going kicking and screaming over the cliff so that the American people actually hear the objections of the Tea Party conservatives. They will remember a display that shuts down the government when they come to understand what kind of disaster Obamacare really is. The Tea Party conservatives tried to stop it and did it in the open for all to see. They also goaded obama and the freak show democrats to step forward and do a lot of nasty, very telling things, like shut down open-air parks and barricade aged veterans from memorials. Makes for good film clips (ads) and evidence, which NEVER would have happend without the Tea Party, Cruz and Lee. Might hurt in the short term, but it will help long term.

Part of the problem with establishment Republicans is that they never make much fuss about egregious, damaging legislation . . . at least nothing that is etched in the minds of the citizens. They prefer to roll over and compliantly take it in the @$$. There will come a time when Americans will greatly regret that Cruz did not succeed.

is that you Boehner, Karl? You say you are a Federal retiree? That figures. You have no ability to think outside the framework of the entrenched political class.

So genius, what is your solution?

Well, here is probably what will happen. One year from now, Cruz will be considered a prophetic genius - by the Democrats who actually pay taxes and get health care at work or were buying it for themselves (and yes, they do exist).

Senator Cruz is live with Levin right now and he says that it was the republican leadership in the Senate that killed this fight. He says that mcconnell and mccain and cornyn and ayotte and others were conspiring with reid, piglosi and obama directly to circumvent any Victory for the conservatives. They aligned with our enemies and sold us out. You want to blame someone... blame senate republicans.

You’d prefer the GOP-e surrender quietly, then.

Do you have a strategy to beat the Democrats?

Oh boy, the trolls are out tonight.

Cruz has done what I voted him in to do....BE THE FREAKING OPPOSITION TO SOCIALISM. It is the rest of the Republican Party that has forgotten why we sent them to Washington.
