With the available array of anti-tank weapons on both the open and covert markets, a light tank would be a pile of scrap in minutes.
Just look at what the Egyptians and Syrians did to Israeli tanks in 1973 with Soviet Sager and shoulder-fired RPGs and TOW-like missiles.
This isn’t the US armor versus the tin-plate Iraqi tanks.
IEDs have changed the whole world of land warfare and we had better recognize that fact, now.
The only weapon I can think of that the US desperately needs now and in the near future for fighting in Afghanistan-like environments is NAPALM. Most other items have serious limits. Just look at how we suffered most of our casualties there.
