Hume: Tea Party pushed budget stand-off because GOP 'utterly failed' to restrain bloated gov't
Fox News ^ | 10/16/2013 | Brit Hume

...Senator Cruz and his adherents do not view things in conventional terms. They look back over the past half-century, including the supposedly golden era of Ronald Reagan, and see the uninterrupted forward march of the American left. Entitlement spending never stopped growing. The regulatory state continued to expand. The national debt grew and grew and finally in the Obama years, exploded. They see an American population becoming unrecognizable from the free and self-reliant people they thought they knew. And they see the Republican Party as having utterly failed to stop the drift toward an unfree nation supervised by an overweening and bloated bureaucracy. They are not interested in Republican policies that merely slow the growth of this leviathan. They want to stop it and reverse it. And they want to show their supporters they'll try anything to bring that about.

"And if some of those things turn out to be reckless and doomed, well so be it."

Too bad he didn’t offer this analysis when it might have mattered.

Hume’s analysis is often a little fairer than Krauthammer’s. I appreciate him 50% of the time.

Even afterwords he was singing a different tune - just a couple of nights ago - bashing Cruz.

Pissed me off so much I turned off the TV and went for a walk...

No doubt there were plenty of Loyalists prior to 1776 that thought Patrick Henry, Jefferson, Madision, et. al were reckless and doomed.

It’s going to take a long time to undo the damage done to the conservative movement by both President Bushs.

He completely avoided the one issue which hurts all Americans: deficit spending causes inflation. This affects savers and benefit recipients (SS, EBT, etc.) disproportionately. They should be on our side but no one has mentioned the damage rampant fed deficit spending poses to them.

Brit Hume, eloquent backstabber of Team Romney/Rove,
always supports Obama and the DNC and al Qaeda
... until exposed or too late, like now.

His liberal positions are usually
far to the LEFT of even Juan Williams.

Little late to the party their Britster, It was formed because they didn't want their kids and grandkids to inherit the Weimar Republic because of debt amongst other things. Yes Cruz for good ( or bad if you listen to your fellow beltway bandits ) spoke up about it and took all the arrows...

The Chinese have noticed, and go to drudge to see how they think about our debt.....

We are indeed lucky that Hume “gets it”!!! The saying “a few good men” has and carries some powerful weight. The Roman Empire had no “few good men” when it needed them most. Thank God we have eighteen (18) Senators and one hundred forty six (146) House members that are a “few good men”!!!

And....we will prevail as a free, vibrant, growing, powerful, profitable nation, and...will not collapse like Rome, Germany, Japan, Russia, Italy, Cuba, Venezuela, etc And....please.....take “men” to include women, too....cause we got some great ones in the Tea Party, Pubbie ranks of “Freedom” fighters!!!

Utter failure. USG spending and deficit must be terminated; our fore fathers would have tarred the reps who allowed this travesty to continue.

Yes, Mr. Hume does get it but he can’t fathom it. The inside the Beltway crew just can’t understand anything beyond the “winners and losers” game. Everything to them is about the next election, the short term. That is why they can’t grasp why anyone would play a long game. Why wouild Cruz and Lee make a stand that would likely fail and make them “losers” in the Beltway boys book?

It is called a stand and it is one worth taking. Coming from this voter I could care the less if the consequences of taking a principled stand against the destruction of this country is that we keep losing elections. Quite frankly, winning (when it happens) with the go along get along get along GOP-e crew has gotten us nothing, nadda, ziltch.

If I were to counterfeit 80 billion US dollars per month, I would be arrested, all my assets impounded, and be put in prison for life.

The con man community organizer is doing it with impunity.
