I disagree. I have 3 Mini-14's an 1 Mini-30. I love the 30 but it is basically a 30-30 with slightly less power. The 14 is good to 300 yds and beyond. The rifle is fine, but I would limit shots to well under 200yds for deer sized game. Under 100 yds, it's great fun. If you have a 125 grn .30 cal SP. it compares pretty close to a 30-30 with 150 grn SP @100yds. The Mini-30 has a little more speed.

Mini-14 has 2700-2900fps speeds with 55grn bullet. It relies on speed for kill power. Shoots much flatter than the 30. .308 beats all of them. I have a M1A for that duty. I'm not sure what it's worth in today's dollars, but It was half the new Ruger price when I bought. Ruger looks cool, but I don't think I'll be investing in cool until the price is around $1500. A new president and some competition and the price will go down like after Clinton.
