I don’t know first hand, but I’m told Russian prisons make Japanese prisons look like kiddygarten.

And Japanese prisons are an exorcise in severe discipline.

I watched a documentary about Russian prisons a couple years back. They are harsh, and the discipline is severe. Prisoners learn very quickly to toe the line.
