A discrimination lawsuit filed against liberal Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee (D-TX) has been allowed to proceed, granted by a federal judge, despite Lee’s attempts to halt the proceedings according to the Washington Times on Tuesday.
The lawsuit was filed by former legislative director Mona Floyd and said in court papers that Mrs. Jackson Lee, a 10-term congressional representative from Houston had refused to accommodate her debilitating eye condition called monocular vision.
Floyd’s lawsuit complaint was based on Lee saying to her, “I don’t care anything about your disability.”
The Washington Times reported that Lee’s legal team wanted to have the complaint dismissed and surprisingly argued that the “actions concerning her staff are protected under the Speech or Debate clause of the Constitution”.
The Washington Times and Fox News first reported about the lawsuit in 2011.
In the Fox News report, Floyd stated that the congresswoman piled her with reading assignments and many time had forced her to work from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. without any breaks.
In addition, in April 2010, Lee told Floyd, “It should not take 10 years to get them done” in reference to a reading assignment.
Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee has been in the news many times with her anti-Republican rants and accusations.
In 2010, while speaking at the NAACP national convention, Lee compared the Tea Party to the KKK.
