“If only we could nominate a ‘moderate’ candidate...someone like a McCain or a Romney, we’d win for sure because it would attract lots more moderates! /s”

Here, let me type real slow so you can understand:

R - 20
I - 47
D - 30

Nominate all the conservatives you like. Piss of every single liberal and moderate. Then let me know how much better things get for you?

Being conservative and appealing to moderates isn’t mutually exclusive. Being hardline conservative and appealing to anyone but conservatives isn’t likely.

The R, I, and D ratios you keep posting are completely meaningless. For example, the I’s have grown and the R’s have shrunk because conservatives are leaving the R category by the droves. I would have thought you would have known that before spewing your ‘we need to be more moderate’ garbage.

Using your own words ‘let me type this real slow so you can understand’, let’s see how your formula works in the real world:

2008
Obama - 365 electoral votes
McCain (moderate) - 173 electoral votes

2012
Obama - 332 elector votes
Romney (moderate) - 206 electoral votes

You’ve had two moderates in a row get their collective doors blown off. I would suggest we try a different type of candidate next time around....maybe someone not quite as moderate.

You are not making your case. I means, typically, a disenfranchised D turning to the right. A conservative candidate will win a national election. The last time we tried it was our biggest victory ever.

There is no such thing as a moderate Democrat, and independents are all over the board. Romney picked up a high percentage of independent votes, but lost because a lot of Republicans sat out the election.

Exactly what kind of compromises do you and your moderate friends suggest conservatives make regarding Obamacare? We’ve only begun to see how bad this purely Democrat legislation is. Wait until the wavers expire.

Yeah, that's what the GHWB and other moderate candidates said in 1980 about Reagan. A leader, a real leader who is articulate, converts those "moderate" voters to his way of thinking. Just like the economy, voters' attitudes are not static, and a static analysis is doomed. If you don't want to convince voters that your principles are correct, then you are the worst sort of Quisling.

It appears that you are assuming the Independents are moderate. I am one of those Independents, but I am not a moderate at all.

Not unless you define moderate as being a believer in the Constitutional Republic form of government set up by the founders, where most issues are up to the states, and not the over reaching Federal Government which trys to boot strap everything to the commerce clause and/or the general welfare.

Just sayin the polls don’t tell the whole story.
