The word I got from a Marine today is that the company that made the covers for the Women Marines went out of business thus the effort to design a new cover for them. There was no intention to change the cover the male Marines wear. The one they show for the Women Marines is a bit of a knock off of the design worn by Marines in the 1918 ear, similar to one worn by one of the Marine legends, Dan Daly.
The cover worn by Women Marines up until now was designed and was part of the original elements of the uniform from 1945.
Then why would they show a photograph of a male Marine wearing the same hat?
