Marcia Wallace, an Emmy-winning character actress on two of TV's most enduring shows, has died. She was 70.

Wallace passed away Friday in Los Angeles. Her cause of death was not immediately announced, but Cathryn Michon, who co-wrote and directed Wallace's final movie, "Muffin Top," gave this statement to Deadline: "She passed at 9 p.m. last night due to complications from breast cancer of which she was a long and proud survivor and advocate for women and healing. Ironically it was during breast cancer awareness month during which she was always a funny ray of hope for so many. I’m devastated."

So sorry to read this. Always loved Ms. Wallace on Bob Newhart and the Simpsons voiceover.

Rest in peace, Mrs. Cra-bopple.

I don’t think she is/was the “Star” of the Simpsons

I remember her. I didn’t know her name, but that face and the big hair, yes. She was ubiquitous during the 70’s and early eighties. A fun character. If Laura Ingraham had an older, plainer sister who worked in comedy, Marcia would fill the bill. Both had a Playful Tomboy aura around them.

The Bob Newhart Show ran from 1972 to 1978. Ms. Wallace played Carol, the wisecracking receptionist for Newhart’s character, a psychiatrist.

When you win an Emmy for your work on the Simpsons, that pretty much elevates you into star status.

I don’t care about celebutards giving awards to celebutards, it does not elevate them in my world

Bob Newhart show will run forever on the retro TV channels (forget which one, but it shouldn’t be hard to find the info).

I particularly remember one line she delivered deadpan on "The Bob Newhart Show," it being her character's response to Elliot Carlin (Jack Riley) after he had made some obnoxious complaint:

"T.S., Elliot."

I haven't paid attention to The Simpsons since season nine or ten, but she did a great job voicing Edna Krabappel.

I didn’t know it was her on The Simpsons. I loved her character on the Bob Newhart Show. Spicy, funny, great punch line giver after Bob’s set up.

She and the dentist character worked well together.

RIP

Check The Simpsons credits; Marcia Wallace always had some sort of special billing.

I honestly didn’t know she was the voice of Bart’s teacher. Loved her in The Bob Newhart Show, though. Still one of my favorite tv shows of all time.

She appeared in “Magnum, P.I.” as Babs, the personal trainer from Bayonne. Hysterical ... and quite physically fit!
