Santorum: Cruz Did More Harm than Good
National Review ^ | October 27, 2013 | Patrick Brennan

Posted on 10/28/2013 12:58:44 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Former senator Rick Santorum offered qualified praise for Senator Ted Cruz this morning, but said the freshman’s effort to force defunding of Obamacare ultimately did “more harm” than good. Santorum said this wasn’t Cruz’s “objective,” which he called “a laudable one,” but he criticized the senator for having no plan to get to his goal of defeating Obamacare.

Meet the Press host David Gregory asked him whether he thought Cruz could be considered “the face of the Republican party,” and Santorum said Cruz is “a face” of the party but not the leader, noting that parties out of the White House often have such a debate over leadership.

as I recall Santorum was eating Newt’s lunch and racking up impressive primary wins on a shoestsing budget, even closing in on the real limp wimp, Romney - who had an unlimited budget

and then Newt went commando on Santorum plus the RINOs went budget clamp on the upstart Rick before he had a chance to beat or at least embarrass Romney in Pennsylvania

Newt is no loyal conservative. Newt lashes out at anyone who threatens Newt. He is entertaining and a very smart sarcastic but angry man who is a great debater and pundit, but as election results showed- Newt is a fatally flawed candidate.

Cain was simply the conservatives’ Obama:
“Look we have a bracelet too!”
Clean, well dressed, well spoken ... Black.
The pizza magnate vs the Harvard Law professor

This fight amongst conservatives has been instigated on spurred on by the party too often refered to as Democrat when actually should be refferenced as demo-com since their 2012 convention and their booing of God’s return. Could have been controlled or moderated by the national central committee because those running it are quite content with the status quo.

The position that Cruz critics should be taking and there is a legion of those besides Santorum, that includes Larry Kudlow,Ron Johnson, and Dennis Praeger, to name a few.
Is this:
The malfunction of the AHCA website has caused the needed swing votes to delay its implimentation to come forward.
Was the knowledge of the downed and screwed up Obamacare website known about by key members of the Senate and House that includes the POTUS and his commisars well before the “shutdown” and kept from the Republican opposition? So that the effort by Cruz and Lee would face the fractious infighting now occuring?

Point being this should be the position taken by the NRCC but there’s no leadership there. Here’s another position they could have taken;

One of the rebuttals the GOPES (gop Elite Snobs) running things could have been using when the demo-coms the DC’s, (they’ill never call the democrats either, they can’t even call them socialist) began propagandizing dire results for a government shutdown. It would have been a perfect time to remind Americans how under the Democrats Viet Nam which became a defacto ward of the US under communist threat. from North Viet Nam. We supported their excursion into a democratic form of government. That was abandoned after a costly victory known as the TET offensive was portayed as a defeat by the the media and our support came to an ignominious end. Defunded by the very same democrats.responding to the academic socialist/ communists who today are now in control of that political party. Where hundreds of thousands of our supporters there died and 58,000 American lives were wasted because of our lack of political resolve..

Instead there’s been a sickening silence.

oh I know that

but I am referring to the created persona which the libs (all over the world) hold true to this day

Obama: the Nobel Peace prize winner and smartest man in the world. I mean, who would vote for a pizza king over a really really smart sophisticated educated guy like obama?

I think we saw the end of that story.

yes, but that is beside the point I was making....I was simply showing that going after Dems works...and yet.....our consultant class doesn’t realize that.

FTR, Newt was shamelessly attacked by every other person in the race twice...once when he was way up in Iowa by 14 points....and then again as he went to Florida ahead by double digits off of the huge win in SC. He reacted badly both times, but he never started a single fight with any other Republican candidate. The record is clear.

Remind me again of Santorums primary wins vs those of Newt, then, and of how close he was to Romney (vs how close were Newt and Cain) in the states where Romney won (and Romney usually won with about 35% of the GOP vote)

and what was Santorums primary win count (and Newts and Cains) vs Romney before Santorum dropped out before PA

I was never a Santorum fan, thought he was too meek, but I recall for a few months there he was starting to look a bit like David the Shepherd boy vs Romney .. then the money ran out

The only harm he did were to the rinos chances of being reelected by the Republican base.....that is what has them so up in arms.

Those internals on up and coming primaries must not be looking too good.

Let's face it, if you can not even oppose socialism what is the use of voting for them when they are nothing but rubber-stamps for dems.

No one bent on revisionist history can be reminded of anything....

The race was over after Mitt beat Newt in Florida. Through Florida, Newt had about four times the popular vote total of Santorum. I did write a hundred thousand word book that has a very long section tracking the entire GOP nomination process, a process I also wrote about daily as it was taking place. I know what I’m talking about here.

Santorum did move into second place post Florida, but the jig was up by then. In fact, SC was the last state with a good turn out. SC was the last primary where anyone ran against Obama.

Florida was a food fight and turn out was way down, and every other state was down compared to 2008 after that. Santorum racked up “states” with teeny little oddball caucus things...he never ever showed the ablity to mobilize large turn outs...because he CANT.....

You may equate 30 thousand folks in Iowa or 3 thousand, yes THREE THOUSAND,, in Nevada to 300 thousand in SC or a million in Florida, but sensible people do not. Santorm played the “finish second” game far better than Newt, but only Newt was ever a viable challenger, if even he was. Rick ran for governor of Iowa first, and then for 2016 next. He knew he was never a real threat and so did Mitt, which is why Mitt’s people funded Ricks’ attax on Newt.

Grow up.

The race was over after Mitt beat Newt in Florida.

Absolutely true.

Newt had about four times the popular vote total of Santorum.

Yep, besides Santorum only became the recipient of the ABM* vote post-Florida as the last man standing, even though he had NO chance. Every one else saw the writing on the wall. Rick Santorum is a good man with NO future as a political candidate for Conservatism. He's only good on some big social issues, but within his being there lies a big government legislative wonk.

Huh?! Srsly?! In what year? In what universe? This did not happen in 2012.

This isn't about Newt versus Santorum anyway. This is about Ted Cruz versus the gopE. And Santorum is on the WRONG side of this debate and is no better than McQueeg.

Proving that all of his 2012 rhetoric was just that .... empty rhetoric.

Santorum is wrong: at worst, Cruz did no harm nor good, and no one will remember what he did in 6 months when they start getting the bill for Obamacare.

Santorum sounds like he’s positioning himself for another run at the White House and sees Cruz as his biggest threat to that end.

The campaign for 2016 has already begun.
