SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KGO) -- We're learning more in the ongoing investigation of a Sonoma County sheriff's deputy who shot and killed a 13-year old who was carrying a replica assault rifle.
The collection of candles and balloons honoring Andy Lopez continues to grow and people continue to show up to pay their respects. Maria Marquez and Juana Rojas have attended the memorial every day since the shooting because they want to tell the boy's parents what they saw when he was killed.
...
She says they were right behind the patrol car at a stop sign. Rojas saw the deputies turn on their police lights, then drive over to where the teenager was standing in an open lot.
Rojas and Marquez say they heard the deputies yell in English "drop the gun."
"Abrieron la puerta de cada lado y sacaron la pistola y tas, tas," Rojas said.
She says almost immediately, both deputies then opened their doors and shots were fired.
Rojas and Marquez say deputies only yelled once before opening fire.
...
She says they fired immediately and didn't give him a chance to do anything.

One more reason that one language should be spoken in America.
It might have helped slightly. (And I do agree that English should be our country’s official language, period.) However, it sounds to me as if the entire thing happened so quickly (spurred on by the deputy’s haste) that the kid didn’t really have time to react. Bewildered, he started to turn to see what was going on, and that was all she wrote.
I do’t think it matters anymore. Cops now like to shoot first and then justify it later.
Absolutely, and it's disgusting. He believed the kid might point the weapon at him, and so he fired. And then while standing over the kid (kid bleeding out and unresponsive) the cops pumped six more bullets into him. Americans are going to turn vigilante against cops, track them down later and exact justice that the "system" no longer provides. Not that I advocate that; just what is coming as happens in other places.
Keep in mind that Santa Rosa is infested with Hispanic gangs.
Nortenos and Suerenos mostly.
Used to be a nice family town until the illegals took over.
About 10 years ago, I took a drive up there on some business.
I hadn’t been there in a while and I had a Red Corvette Convertible at the time.
I’m at a stop light and a Blue sedan with four Latinos pulls up next to me and starts flashing gang signs, shouting gang slogans and threats and the usual gang related BS, including flashing a very large knife.
I was shocked as I hadn’t been there in years and couldn’t believe how much a once nice family town turned into a gang infested shithole.
It’s only gotten worse since.
First thing that needs to be done is replace those automatic pistols they now carry back to revolvers.
I’m sorry to hear of it. I used to like that area.
First thing that needs to be done is to have a zero tolerance policy for violations of 18 USC § 242 - Deprivation of rights under color of law.

And teach marksmanship, not spray and pray. Panic control would be great too.
If soldiers in the Middle East operated like suburban cops, they'd be court martialed. If a civilian walked up on this kid and did this exact thing, he'd be jailed.
Cops get paid vacation.
That's a far cry from him pointing the barrel of the gun at him. He believed that he was about to ... The dashcam video must be devastating and show that at no time was the barrel pointing at the officers.
The officer who fired as a 24 year veteran and should have known better. The other officer who didn't fire was a new hire.
The kid had 7 bullet holes in him.
Two witnesses say they shouted at him while in their car and then got out -- so he may not have heard what was shouted at him.
And when they got out and got behind the doors the officer just immediately started shooting -- 7 times.
The amazing thing in this situation is that the deputy who fired was a 24 year veteran while the deputy who held his fire was a new hire. The rookie had more sense than the veteran.
LAME!

Derringer pistols would be better for these idiots.
And if all cops would adopt this procedure the show "Cops" would be 3 minutes long and our streets a lot safer.
Zieg Heil, Kamerad!
The account you report may be accurate, or it just may be a lot of exaggeration from some illegals looking to score from the lawsuit settlement of the parents of the dead kid.
Mind you, I have no knowledge of the facts. I am just speculating. Not ready to accept the eyewitness account just yet. Were they illegals? Was the dead boy an illegal? A gang member? I don’t know. I also do not know if these policemen are good guys or bad.
