Floyd "Pete" Petiprin has lived through the Pearl Harbor attack, a broken hip and the loss of his wife Emily, but the Winter Park man greets each day with an upbeat outlook.
"If you have a positive attitude and say your prayers every day, you can recover from almost anything," Petiprin said. "Psychologically, it is very important to be as happy as possible."

Petiprin joined the U.S. Navy when he was a business administration student at the University of Michigan because "we knew we'd be drafted." He was an officer for 10 years before losing friends in the Pearl Harbor attack.
His 41 years in Navy took him all over the world, including fighting in 13 battles and organizing conferences for North Atlantic Treaty Organization officials.

Sadly, that was one of my first thoughts, too.
What a beautiful man! My mother is 100 and, although sharp, is not as sharp as this young man! I’ll bet he makes to to 105.

Vet or not, the guy is on to something as borne out by the research. More than good genes or physiology the secret to longevity does seem to lie in personality — a positive attitude for life optimistic, easygoing, extraverted, less neurotic and more conscientious. Advice that plenty of members on this board would be wise to heed. :)
