We now know who Robert Sarvis is and certainly not a genuine libertarian and more like a LINO (libertarian-in-name-only). Like with the Republican Party, the Libertarian Party over the past couple election cycles has put up candidates with no real principle (Gary Johnson and Bob Barr). Robert Sarvis is no exception to the rule. For one thing when it comes to fiscal issues while he sounds conservative he really isn’t. He doesn’t support tax cuts (actually supports new taxes on roads), he doesn’t oppose medicaid expansion and isn’t part of the Austrian Economics crowd. Rather calls himself “pro-business” and not pro-free markets. While the terms sound the same they’re really not. When someone is pro-business that doesn’t necessarily make them a friend of the free market.
Also there’s his positions on social issues. On abortion, he’s actually to the left of Democrats on this. After the Kermit Gosnell case the VA General Assembly passed by a wide margin new restrictions on abortion clinics making sure they weren’t health hazards. Even Democrats supported the measure by pretty good margins. Sarvis says he favors rolling them back which would only risk creating another Kermit Gosnell situation. While I personally disagree with pro-choice libertarians, I can at least accept their viewpoint. Sarvis however goes too far. On gay marriage, Sarvis favors legalizing it which isn’t truly libertarian. The true libertarian position is to get government out of the marriage business as reflected by Ron Paul.
So when you get down to it Robert Sarvis is really running as a centrist as goldwaterconservative points out in a recent diary of his. The closest to a genuine libertarian in the race is really Ken Cuccinelli. He was the first to sue Obamacare after it first passed, he’s fought against crony capitalism time and time again (which Terry McAuliffe is waist deep in) and overall has done more for individual liberty than a lot of other people in office have. This is cushioned by the endorsements of Ron and Rand Paul who’ve spoken very highly of Cuccinelli. I recently wrote a diary about the grime situation Cuccinelli’s campaign is facing lately, but I’ll try to keep open minded and see what actually happens on Nov. 5th. If Cuccinelli wins, it’s cause for celebration. If not don’t despair. The pro-liberty movement shall continue and will win in the end regardless what happens in VA. Hail liberty.
I would hazard a guess that if you dug deep enough you would find Sarvis is getting significant financial support - or promises of future support - from the Soros crowd.
Sarvis is being financed by Democrats to siphon votes away from Cuccinelli. People who vote for Sarvis might as well be voting for McAuliffe.

Another Bob Barr type LP candidate. You know you’ve lost your libertarian “street cred” when the Paul’s endorse the GOP-er in the race.
Dems are following the template though. Push favorable polling data through their lapdog media, bury your opponent under Alynski-type attacks, muddy the waters as much as possible so no one notices that heavily Dem precincts have 108% “over votes” and absentee ballots are only counted for the Dem while being “lost” for anyone else.
That’s how we ended up with Franken and Dayton up here in MN.
For those blaming the LP candidate as a “spoiler”, go sit in the corner until you realize the LP draws pretty evenly from both sides.
Scratch a Liberaltarian and you will find liberal that would vote for Karl Marx if you promised him a big sack of dope to smoke with his queer boyfriend!

The good news is that residents of the Old Dominion are (finally) waking up and realizing that Savis is nothing more than a stalking horse for McAuliffe. Today’s Quinnipiac has the governor’s race within the margin of error and if Sarvis wasn’t in the contest, it would be a dead heat.
Support for Sarvis (according to the poll) is also dropping. By election day, he’ll be like most Libertarian candidates, pulling no more than 3-4 percent of the vote. That gives Cuccinelli a real shot, although you can count on the WaPo or Virginian-Pilot (Norfolk) to run another “doctored” poll before the weekend, showing McAuliffe with a big lead, and trying to drive down the GOP vote.
Remember...its not who votes but who counts the votes that matters. Think Minnesota?
Sounds like Sarvis is actually a moderate Republican running on the Libertarian label.

The libertarian position on abortion is ZERO restrictions, ZERO restraints, ZERO limits, their position is that is is purely whatever the woman wants, whenever she wants. *""we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration.""*
On the gay agenda here is their position, *""Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government's treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. ""* Which is simply childish and rejects all human experience as all cultures have had to define marriage and have laws related to marriage, whether law was tribal law or some other form of government, or even a governmental type church law, in America marriage laws have always existed, as they must.
He’s exposed, that’s a Bill Maher “liberatrian” right there. But is it too late?

I'm not so sure he was really that well respected in the Conservative movement, in truth. Example: Larry Speakes, 1988: "First among institutions, at least in his own mind, is George Will... Will is the most pompous and arrogant among a whole legion of egotists, prima donnas, and problem children who report on the White House. I sometimes tried to goad Sam Donaldson into puncturing Will's ego... I have always felt that George is a pseudo-conservative..."
