My husband flew out of Phx Sky Harbor today. (we always opt out of the radiation DNA baking machines) He said it was the most invasive pat down he has had yet.

I'm afraid the TSA has excruciating exam methods in store for airline passengers that would make prison guards cringe. Definitely not a good time to be flying.

I flew a couple of weeks ago and noticed that, too. Much more detailed inspection. Also, the wait to get the patdown was very long and the ones doing the patdown are the biggest, meanest bruisers they have on staff. I believe they are trying to 'incentivise' us to go through the machine and not inconvenience them with the opt-out.
