The problem in the US is that we're over-extended financially, and we've given power to corrupt-o-crats.
I would say that the tradition of a well-rounded education would make these students excellent prospective hires. But is that what these colleges are producing? In a lot of cases, I would say no.
In general, a degree in Math, Engineering, or the sciences will be of more value. We have a shortage of American born students in those areas.
While taking my Masters in Computer Science, I was typically the only native English speaker in any of my classes.
****develop marketing campaigns, develop advertising materials****
I hopefully believe you are one who sifts most of the “innovative” dreck from the portfolios that you dare to engage.
I can do all of that in abundance, and could do so before graduating high school.
We are not speaking of communicating with people, because all communication deals with culture primarily.
I would not be employed by anyone who was not engaged in moving the culture to the right, and I mean in creative and innovative ways that really mean something to the exposed audience.
I believe, success is never the guideline, improving the culture while making money is.
I’m willing to bet you would still prefer to hire a liberal arts major from a college such as Hillsdale, where the graduates are exposed to multiple points of view than one from your typical liberal arts college which takes something like global warming as a settled article of faith. Am I right?
“People who have the ability to communicate can compose effective business proposals, develop marketing campaigns, develop advertising materials and fill many other valuable niches. “
All Persuaders, not producers.
Hollywood & the media glorify Persuaders, not Producers (well, except for producers of ‘fluff’ - artists, actors, musicians...).
Engineers, machinists, farmers, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, fabricators keep things going for all the non-productive members of society who think so highly of themselves.
And that most liberal arts degrees don’t impart what they did 50 years ago.
