NBC News: McAuliffe projected to narrowly win Virginia governor’s race

NBC News projects Democratic businessman Terry McAuliffe will defeat Republican Ken Cuccinelli to become Virginia’s next governor after a contentious race that appeared closer than many political watchers anticipated with votes still to be counted.

Exit polls showed McAuliffe’s support among women and in the Democrat-leaning northern part of the state was enough to top the state’s attorney general in a race that had Cuccinelli fighting back against a litany of ads painting him as “too extreme” for the state’s moderate voters. However, voters cited the economy and health care as the issues most important to them, and Cuccinelli beat his Democratic rival in both categories, helping to keep the contest tight throughout Tuesday evening.

Libertarian Robert Sarvis received less than 10 percent of the vote as a third-party candidate. …

This guy wasn’t a real libertarian, or probably a real Libertarian, either. Did you read the story (first on the Blaze, I guess) of how he came to be in the race?

All Dem candidates have to do to get the single female vote is promise to keep abortion “safe and legal” and call conservatives haters and homophobes. Virtually nothing else matters to that voting segment.

Don’t know what made you think well of libertarians. They are hardcore social liberals and dead against social conservative principles that the Founding Fathers knew had to be pillars for the nation to stand on.

Good grief, I made the mistake of trying to listen to Mike Church on Sirius Radio. This guy is the embodiment of all the lunacy that is the Libertarian movement. This guy is a true crack pot.

I’m not impressed with Libertarians.

Chinagate Scumbag Terry McAuliffe has won in Virginia.

Voters in Va. should be thinking twice now once they realize that Terry McAuliffe was one of the KEY CHINAGATE TRAITORS! McAuliffe was the top fundraiser for Bill Clinton and the DNC (ie. chinese money/chinagate)

NO! They won’t realize it, and they simply do not care!

With everything going on with Obamacare, Beghazi, NHS Spying, IRS Scandal, and other assorted Obama scandals, they still rewarded the Dem with the win.

I’ll make you a prediction: The GOP are going to get their a$$ses handed to them in both 2014 and 2016.

Wait until the buyer’s remorse sets in. Then they will start looking for how many dead people voted . . .

I have lost faith that the average American is moral and rational.

They have traded liberty for a false perpetrator of security Women went big for McAuliffe despite the fact he is a proponent of abortion on demand.
Guess they vote with what’s between their legs instead of using their brain.

So I guess Libertarians delivered both Virginia’s senate seats and POTUS electoral votes in the last decade?

Nonsense. Virginia hasn’t been reliably red in ages.

Extraordinary the amount the “Libertarian” got...just like in other races where there is an actual, genuine principled conservative nominated by the GOP, the Libertarians really get to work in those races. Mia Love in Utah, Kelly in AZ in 2010, etc.

Get used to be a minority party for the next 30 years. I live in occupied Kalifornia, where the GOP is only 35%, and doesn’t win anything. Unfortunately, the US will need to go broke before the GOP makes a comeback.

About the same margins now with 98.98% reporting:

Cuccinelli (R) - 970,490 or 45.60%
McAuliffe (D) - 1,007,733 or 47.35%
Sarvis (L) - 140,634 or 6.61%
Write In - 9,214 or 0.43%

1.75% margin to the Dem, with 1.02% left to report.

Sad to report... the race was over when the LOSERTARIAN was polling 7%.Fools!.............................52% of the voters didn’t vote for Mc Auliffe, and he won with 47% of the vote. That is what always occurs in a 3 way race, the loser wins. No 3rd parties without a run off election with the 2 highest winners. Its over unless the Repubs pull a “Frankel”.

Nice going Virginia! You've just elected

Robert "Ratso" Rizzo redux to be your governor.

Maybe the rest of the former Bell Ca city council should move to Virginia and run for office.

It's only a matter of time til they catch McAuliffe in some kind of corruption-then won't we all just luv it when the Virginia dim bulb voters come out and say how "shocked" they are to learn that he is corrupt?

WTH Let's open a FR betting pool on how many days it will be til McAuliffe is caught in some kind of scandal- Any takers?
I'll say 6 months.

Well, when you’re a woman in N. Virginia, and you suffer nothing because you live in an artificially inflated environment where government trough money is flowing ...you can afford to be liberal and trashy and abortion minded. Easy when you are so protected.
