Does any Democrat senator have experience owning a small business??? Making payroll is difficult these days.

Do you, perchance, recall Sen. George McGovern (D-SD), the Democrat Presidential candidate in 1972?

After he was involuntarily retired from the Senate in 1980, McGovern invested in a hobby B&B in the Black Hills.

Within a few years, the enterprise had gone bust -- and McGovern confessed that, had he known how onerous compliance with federal law was for small businessmen, he never would've voted for all those measures.

Just another in a series of “Political-Ad-Generating-Bills” we’re going to see over and over again in the next few months. Of course a 40% minimum wage increase isn’t going to pass.

The only purpose of this is to enable the Democrats who are being savaged by the Obamacare disaster to run radio ads about the greedy racist Tea-Party Republicans who want to deprive the 99% of their just desserts.

I wish I could say that the American electorate was too smart to fall for this.

Didn't the economy then crash in 2008??

Yep. But if your goal is to crash the economy, raising the minimum wage is perfectly logical.

“Alright, then we get more illegals who will work for $5/hr. /s”

There won’t be any illegals after amnesty and they will all be paying taxes. This plus increased minimum wage equals a golden age of prosperity in the fundamental transformation toward the glorious new Workers’ Paradise.

Dems never stop with stupidity.
This crap just results in inflation that screws people in the middle class, but especially people on fixed incomes.

President Obama is behind the push for a wage increase, senators said. Obama sent his chief economist, Jason Furman, to promote the plan to Senate Democrats Thursday afternoon.

We really do have morons running this country.

Problem is that middle class wages stay stagnant.
Fixed income remains stagnant.

The only jerks that win at this game are unions that have their wage TIED to the minimum wage.

The people at the bottom are in the same position and everyone else gets SCREWED.

Hey, it only makes sense. Obamacare is going to cost so much more for the average person, they need to make more money to pay for it.

In nearby SeaTac, Washington(state) they just voted a new minimum wage of $15 an hour. One of their points was that SeaTac has the highest property tax in the state, so they need more money to pay the higher tax.

One of the gay marriage things was brought about by a “couple” that felt it was unfair that they had to pay the high individual federal taxes and didn’t get the marriage break. I wish it had been a conservative gay couple, and they had instead fought against the high individual tax instead.

BTW. I used to work for my dad as a kid. When I first started (early 70’s) he said “Well, I would pay you what you’re worth. But I don’t think you’ll work that cheap. So how does $5 an hour sound?” (Back then, between me and my buddies, he had all the labor he could handle at $5 an hour!)

Not only are unskilled off-the-books laborers not paying any taxes, they're also not subject to myriad other federal inspections and regulations.

It's actually a better deal for everyone concerned, except for the Feds of course.

But who gives a damn about them? Bring it. Let's take the whole economy to a cash or barter level, and see what power they have left.

10 dollars an hour actually sounds about right to me. The 15 dollars an hour fast food workers are demanding is just crazy.

Welcome to FR. You've made several thought provoking posts since joining here today. Are you a union member?

$10 should be worth firing 2 out of every 10 employees.

If the minimum wage is raised to 9 or 10 dollars, I assume wait persons (formerly waiters and waitresses) will still expect the same amount in their tips.
