Sorry but this is just like the gay rights bill, they know it will not get past the house. They could care less about gay rights or the minimum wage, these failing in the house gives them ammo for 2014. The Republicans hate this and the Republicans hate that. That’s all it is!

“Elevate” them and insure that the middle class and them are more indistinguishable/disparate. The grand plan of destruction does not lack lubrication for its wheels to keep turning/grinding.

Reject it, re write it with a 100% increase and send it back to the Senate. Just add to it that everybody including all federal employee’s, and all their buddies have to go on the ACA, no exceptions. Then lets see who rejects an increase in minimum wage.

Wonder what the price of a Big Mac is at + 40% ?? sigh

Here is the math: The average cost of labor in the food service industry is 25%. So let's say a Big Mac costs $4.00. So $1.00 of the $4.00 cost went towards labor. If labor goes up 40% then the labor cost would be $1.40 per Mac. The Big Mac would cost $4.40. Not exactly earth shattering increase there.

If the minimum wage goes up 40% then Big mac goes up 40 cents....meh

Why is $7.25/hr not enough?

Take the minimum wage in 1975 as a baseline - $2.00/hr. Adjust it for inflation min wage in 2013 should be $12.00/hr. So kids in the 1970's were overpaid, or today's workers are underpaid. You can't have it both ways.

That's the increase in cost directly attributable to making the sandwich, and it assumes all the costs of the ingredients stays the same. The costs of the ingredients may also go up because of increased labor costs by the producers and suppliers.

Since the public employee union wages are indexed to minimum wage, think of this as an Obamacare waiver.

That is specious. But allowing for that throw another dime in the pot. 4.00 to 4.50. meh.

Look I could care less about this issue. But deal in reality. I am only for the increase because the "Chamber of Commerce" lobby is against it. Whatever that cabal is for I am against. That K street gang is as anti Tea Party as you can get..

My son makes minimum wage and goes to college. His paychecks are pathetic, even by my standards of the 1970's when I made minimum wage. Adjusted for inflation the Captains of industry are really making out...

Translation: General wage inflation is an absolute must to pay for Obamacare.

If all wages are raised, competitive business disadvantages disappear as all labor costs across the board are equalized.

A minimum wage earner will be able to afford the increased cost of living imposed by Obamacare. The same will be true of everyone earning an artificially increased wage.

The Democrat party is a treacherously evil criminal conspriacy

That is specious.

For it to be "specious" the must be some flaw in the basic premise or logic. Where is the flaw?

Ok let's use you supposition the it cause a 40% increase across the board. So WORST CASE SCENARIO is the Big Mac goes from $4.00 to $5.60 right? This is a big difference but still not earth shattering. But let's split the difference. The low end the $4.00 Mac goes to $4.40 the high end the Mac sells for $5.60. Splitting the difference then the Mac sells for a retail price of $5.00.

Ok a Big Mac goes from $4.00 to $5.00. An sizable increase for sure, but not the "We'll when Big Macs cost $10.00 dollars apiece that will be the end" laughable BS that I see here.

Sorry this is very poor typing on my part : Ok let's use you supposition the it cause a 40% increase across the board.

I meant to type: Ok let's use you supposition that the min wage increas would cause a 40% increase across the board.

Agreed. And it’s not a big deal to have to pay another $1.60 every time you buy a Big Mac. But it won’t be just Big Macs. It will be everything you buy that relies on minimum-wage labor somewhere in the production chain.

Fair point but at $1000/hr we probably could get SJ Lee and Bernie Sanders to actually support it. The transcripts from floor debates would be priceless.
