The MU-2 is a high-mounted wing, twin turboprop, with high cruising speeds and low approach speeds. Lots of fatalities with this aircraft (>330). Requires special initial and recurring training to be certified. Has engine out handling characteristics that are counter-intuitive to normal procedures.

Twin turboprop, high wing loading, spoilers on top of wings instead of ailerons. As a result of the spoilers it handles differently at slow speeds and it cannot carry much ice because of spoiler cannot activate with ice on top of wing.

Mitsubishi Industries in Japan made it.

Has killed a lot of folks, both experienced and inexperienced pilots both.

Could you please explain to me how the MU-2 has engine out handling characteristics that are counter-intuitive to normal procedures?

This is just sickening, prayers for the Inhofe family.

This plane has had a lot of issues...

Letter of Rep. Tancredo to FAA Administrator Marion Blakey (extracts)

'I Am Requesting That The Aircraft Be Grounded' In perusing the NTSB website, I noted that the MU-2 (known as the "Kill You 2" in pilot circles) has been involved in 187 accidents since 1962 (NTSB printout enclosed) ... 238 people have died in 74 different fatal accidents. In addition to the Centennial crash, there were six other MU-2B accidents in 2004 (4 fatalities) and on May 24, 2005, another crash claimed four more lives in Oregon (the pilot had 17,000 flight hours!)
