If I were Congress, I would sue the original provider of the software for a full refund, assuming they have not already hidden the money someplace. (Fat chance of ever getting the money back)

I do want to say “Bless you” for properly capitalizing an acronym. That is so rare nowadays. And I *love* the TRS-80 reference.
P.S. My first was FORTRAN.
P.P.S. If you is a typical college student today, there is still COBOL code running today that is older than you are; possibly older than your parents. (In the late 1990s one of our asst. sysops graduated and went to work and a big insurance company programming in [wait for it...] “structured COBOL” -his words.)
