Grassley & Harkin Respond to President's Affordable Health Care Changes

Iowa Senators Chuck Grassley and Tom Harkin have issued statements concerning President Obama's announcement Thursday that insurers don't have to cancel insurance plans next year because of the Affordable Care Act.

Grassley's statement: “For three years, the President has taken out his pencil and eraser and rewritten or delayed his law on the fly when it’s not working. He’s doing it again today. The insurance companies that sent four million cancellation notices did it to comply with his law. What will it take for the President to admit the law isn’t working and at least call for a full delay? The President should work with Congress on something bipartisan that would address health insurance problems without disrupting what does work in our health care system.”

Harkin's statement: "If it had been up to me, I am not certain I would have made this decision, but the President felt it was important to do. My hope, however, is that everyone who has received a cancellation notice will fully and carefully consider their options. In the vast majority of cases, they will find that the coverage that they were paying good money for is not worth the paper it was printed on. It will not cover them if they are hospitalized, if they need expensive prescription drugs to treat an illness or a chronic condition, or if they have a pre-existing condition. If they go to the marketplace, however, they can get quality coverage - in some cases paying a little more, perhaps, but getting many more benefits."

Harkin keeps spouting nonsense like this -- even after the horror stories have become a staple of the news.

I can only conclude he really believes it. He has it stuck in his mind that every individual policy is one of those "discount network" scams, complete with a coupon book. And he's convinced that the American people are so stupid that they believe they've gotten complete healthcare coverage for their $99.50.

Harkin is an elitist, totally detached from reality -- an apt symbol of both Washington and the U.S. Senate.

getting many more benefits."

Right, like birth control for couples in their 50s and 60s, along with pediatric dental/vision care. The whole premise of Obamacare is to make people pay for things they don't need and won't use, ie, "many more useless benefits."

0bama just did exactly the same thing that James O’Keefe caught the 0bamaCare navigators doing.
He told the insurance companies that they could just break the law if they want to.

How lucky we bumbling incompetent idiots are that we have the Federal government to protect us from ourselves and from our state insurance regulators who are apparently even stupider than we are.

Personally my hope is that everyone who has been screwed over by the Federal government will carefully consider their options when voting in November 2014. In the vast majority of cases they will find that the Democrat representation they were casting good votes for in the past wasn’t worth the paper those ballots were printed on....
