One person is dead and three are in custody after a home invasion near Sandstone early Thursday morning.
The Pine County Sheriff said two suspects invaded the home on Fox Road at 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. Authorities said one suspect was armed with a handgun, but confronted by an elderly homeowner.
Pine County Sheriff Robin Cole said the homeowner was able to retrieve his own gun during the confrontation and then shot and killed the armed suspect.
"He feels terrible. He feels absolutely terrible. He's an old guy. He's a guy that I know. He's a nice guy, and it's a terrible thing to have to do this," Cole said.
Sheriff Cole said the homeowner was unharmed, but 23-year-old Gypsy Wayne Watts was found dead at the scene. Cole said the second suspect fled from the home on foot.
Cole tells our sister station KSTP that Watts, along with three other suspects went to the man's farm to steal painkillers that he takes for pain associated with his terminal cancer.

Nice shooting citizen. Society thanks you.
Stealing pain medicine from a terminally ill cancer patient. Too bad he didnt get both.
.45 acp can be an excellent pain killer when administered properly.
I dunno, but I gotta a feelin’ that if your momma names you Gypsy, some pretty bad mojo is gonna be following you for life, however short that may be.
I LOVE A HAPPY ENDING!
I have a Colt XSE light weight commander .45. Really not very heavy at all. But, it went down with the boat dontcha know.
Now, now, just wait patiently, the newsless paper's will have the obligatory sentence; "Amish" boy was already turning his life around, and or; a Nobel Prize was in the youth's future.
Nobel Prize for the detriment of Lead Poisoning, and it's effect on accuracy.
9mm will kill your body. .45 will kill your soul.
If you name your son "Gypsy Wayne" he will be shot dead during a drug related crime. EVERY time.
Had the same thing happen to me, seems to be a lot of that going around. Lost my M1A and my Ruger Super Redhawk 44 mag. I never was any good with canoes.
