Stung by conservative backlash earlier this year, Marco Rubio has spent months seemingly trying to convince skeptical fellow Republicans that he's more than just the Florida senator who championed comprehensive immigration reform.
He joined the drive to defund President Barack Obama's health care law, though his voice grew softer as the resulting government shutdown and his party sank in polls. He then turned to championing social issues like legislative prayer.
On Saturday, Rubio will deliver the keynote address at a fundraiser for the Florida Family Policy Council, an evangelical group that led the successful 2008 effort to ban gay marriage in the state. And next week, the potential presidential candidate plans to deliver what aides described as a major foreign policy speech at the conservative American Enterprise Institute.

No, thanks.
Marco Rubio - A “MeCain” Republican. ...one rever recovers.
Marco Rubio - A “MeCain” Republican. ...one never recovers.
One must point out that never did Rubio hide his amnesty for illegals agenda when speaking to Spanish language crowds.
There were some idiots on Free Republic who lacked the intellect to grasp the implications of that even when linked to YouTube videos of the speeches in question. They fully deserve the ridicule I give them now because the intellectual vacuity that allowed them to support Rubio anyway causes them to support other CINOs now.
2 you are easily manipulated by the sharks on the left. Which begs the question , what will be the next issue you are conned into?
Either way, we've no room or stomach for it anymore. It is a shame too, I had high hopes for Rubio the first I saw and heard of him.
He was with Cruz 100% for those 21 hours. He's had some real good comments about the Obamacare mess. I think he can do it if he explains how and why he didn't "get it" how important it is to US citizens that invaders go home.
He needs to emphasize that he's proud that his parents got here following the rule of law, and as he's travelled the country, spoke to more people, and seen more of the problems the US has, he now understands that we need to go back to following the rule of law, not changing it.
I think he can, but it will take time and no more mistakes or being played by the likes of Schummer and McCain. Rubio's already way ahead of Flake and Ayotte, who keep digging themselves deeper holes.
It is said he joined the drive for immigration reform like he was just another in the group, but the fact is, that bill likely would not have made it out of the Senate if not for the efforts of Rubio. They used Rubio to keep opposition silent while the Democrats were putting it together. Rubio was all over the place telling anyone who would listen he would not support amnesty, and reform had to start with securing the border. Rubio had the credibility to pull it off due to his association with the Tea Party wing of the party. Rubio is a real traitor, not just a politician who was on the wrong side of an issue.
You want us to just pretend like your betrayal never happened and move on? Is that right? What, you think I just fell off the turnip truck or something?
Well, screw that, Rube Tube. We don’t play that game anymore.
I wonder when his spine was removed, or if he even had one to begin with? Big flash in the pan at the RNC; it was all downhill after that.
Once he finds he’s going nowhere anymore, will he align himself with all the other US Senate RINOs/GOPe/leftist lib-dem scum, and shun Cruz, Lee et al? The next McLame, Graham, Hatch etc?
Too bad. I had high hopes for him once, too.
The problem with Rubio is that he has always been soft on immigration and probably always will be. Maybe he can earn my support after a couple terms as Fl Governor, but certainly not at this time.
Good one!
He’s always been pro-amnesty and if he ever went across the country proclaiming otherwise, as you suggest, he’d just be lying again.
No thank you.
No he can’t. He lied. He’s a traitor. He pretended to be one thing, said he would do one thing, but when push came to shove, he joined the other side. He used every bit of credit he had built up to push the enemies cause and try to trick unwary conservatives.
I don’t care about what his immigrant parents did. I care about the lies he told and the traitorous ways he behaved. No matter what he says from now on, he can never again be trusted. You never know when his price will be right and he’ll slide up behind you and stab you in the back.
Has he learned that we think differently about Cubans, Puerto Ricans and others who obeyed the rules about immigration, assimilate, and respect US customs cultures and values? Or is Rubio just another backstabbing mini-McCain?
We have to get some politicians to come on over. I made the distinction that Rubio stood with Cruz during the 21 hours, burning his bridges to RINO land. I contrasted that to the despicable Flake and Ayotte who (1) understood all along how deep the hatred of the invasion is and (2) still backstab us.
Do I trust Rubio completely yet on immigration? No. He could go a long way by asking Numbers USA to suggest some good campaign staffers to keep him abreast of what's important to those who want to reverse the invasion of the US. He could get rid of for good any staffers who manipulated him into joining the minimccains and their gang treachery.
But we can't give up on everyone. Think about it. If Rubio comes out respecting the rule of law and important stuff like small business formation, the constituional conservatives could own the Cuban vote and a good part of the Puerto Rican vote (they're legal too). That's a whole lot of hispanic voters for them, by fraying that hispanic vote.
marco sh*t in his hat
Lots of GOP senators made cameo appearances at Ted’s event without burning bridges: RINOs appreciate the need for reelection, after all.
Such “provincialism” from Florida, Texas and the Southwest never seems to go away at the national level.
From the secret negotiations to the breaking of his promises to the dissembling and condescension in his “explanations” Rubio has been exposed beyond rehabilitation.
All in the name of his ethnicity and his allegiance to the blue bloods and country clubbers who he sees as his ticket to more power.
Sociopaths like Rubio make me want to vomit.
Seek mental help Marco, or join the communist party USA, they have the same position on illegal immigration as you do.
The pro illegal alien crowd is nothing more than a bunch of communist fronts allied with big business designed to screw the middle class from both sides.
Hell no, time to fight the communists and the blue bloods in the streets.
You’ve placed Rubio in a box — a just say no on immigration box. But, I know that you can’t trust him on any subject. The way he manipulated his conservative connections, appearing on talk radio, with hosts and making PSA like recorded ads playing over and over about how conservatives should think, said he was more than willing pimp himself out like a two dollar whore.
Do you really imagine that anyone who would sell themselves out so willingly only limits the sale to one subject? Do you imagine the democrats/GOPe are stupid enough to consider Rubio off limits on anything except immigration when they can get him to roll on any subject as long as they promise him immigration support later?
I’m glad Rubio stood with Cruz but it really doesn’t change a thing. Rubio would have done anything to get his image out of the toilet. Nothing he does from now on will impress me. His word is trash. His motives will always be suspect.
