Dems Hold 'Closed-Door Discussion' with NFL, NBA, NHL to Promote Climate Change Agenda

Climate change alarmists have turned to recruiting sports leagues to promote eco-hysteria. Democrats in Congress are calling on the major sports leagues to promote climate change regulation and to answer what they are doing to limit greenhouse gases. Democratic legislators from the Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change announced on Nov. 20 that they will host major sports league officials in "a closed-door discussion," Nov. 21. Representatives from Major League Baseball, the NFL, NBA/WNBA, NHL and Olympics are expected to attend. That will be followed by press availability. Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) are expected to "discuss the effects of climate change on sporting activities and the work these organizations are doing to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions," according to the task force website. The Bicameral Task Force on Climate Change, formed in January 2013 to combat climate change, previously asked the five leagues, and the United States Olympic Committee, among 300 groups, for policy suggestions to combat climate change. In a letter to these organizations, Waxman and Whitehouse warned that the "window to prevent catastrophic climate change is rapidly closing." The congressmen told the sports leagues that they had "a moral obligation to act." These sports leagues responded, prioritizing "sustainability." The NFL, NHL, MLB, and USOC each devote a section of their websites to sustainability efforts. These policies include installing solar panels on stadiums, making environmentally conscious renovations to sports centers, and pursuing renewable energy credits to offset greenhouse gas. The majority of these leagues have also partnered with George Soros-funded lobbyists at the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC) to promote a left-wing environmental agenda. The MLB, NHL, and NBA each worked with NRDC officials to advocate the use of solar power. The NRDC has received $1,775,221 from liberal mega-donor Soros since 2004.

This is actually good news. I say let the Left continue their assault on professional sports. Maybe that will wake people up.

Yes. The Left gets away with what it does in large part through people not paying attention. The bread and circuses that keep the mass of people quiescent and ignorant are important components to the Left's strategy. Messing with the circuses is foolish from their point of view. It will merely wake up a segment of the population that is not yet roused.

The sports world is becoming increasingly political.

Games are saturated with idiotic commercials.

Player antics are outrageous and often disgraceful.

The entertainment value of sports is diminishing IMHO.

Look for a 20 yard penalty for farting, for which the ref will throw a brown flag.

Playing games increases CO2 output not only by the players but by all the travel required for the teams and spectators.

Ban all games and decrease CO2 output by millions of tons a year.

I would think one main driver of CO2 for pro sports (if they think that is bad) would be transportation for fans and team. Thats a lot of airplane and automobile fuel. If they don’t attack that then nothing else they could do would matter very much in comparison. So what would they do? Shut down the stadiums and just do pay per view?

Besides going after the wrong problem (CO2) I don’t see much logic used at solving the so-called problem. If they really believe this stuff they have to reduce transportation.

I predict that when the NHL plays their outdoor game at Dodger Stadium later this season, and the ice sucks, they are gonna blame Global Warming.

Sadly they will NOT tell the Dems to go to Hell.
They have many more plans in the works to ask for hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to fund new stadiums.

If I wanted to fund children’s games such as football, I could do it far more cheaply by giving the neighbor’s kid a rubber ball.

But that would circumvent the massive corruption of our public pols, and they would never allow it.

They’re in on the scam together. Most cities pimp public rail as the way to get to the latest publicly finnanced stadium. Here in Minnesota, rail actually subsidizes the Twins-many times offering ‘free’ rides to the game from various locales. Then they can claim ridership has increased as an added bonus to fuel future scams.

Here we’ve built the World’s Most Expensive Tunnel (per linear foot) for the sole purpose of allowing light rail to dump you at the two stadiums and/or the casino.
