(AL) Several Decatur, Morgan & Limestone Schools Dismiss Due to Suspicious Package Near Daikin Plant

Several schools in Decatur, Morgan County and Limestone County are dismissing due to a suspicious situation at the Daikin facility on Highway 20.

Police say a suspicious device was found attached to a rail car at the facility. The rail car contains hazardous material. No other information about the train car involved or the nature of the device was immediately available.

Police say the estimated potential danger zone is 25 miles. Current weather conditions indicate that the greatest danger area would be to the northeast should an explosion occur. The intersection of State Docks Road and Highway 20 West can be used as a reference point.

There is a major train yard right in the middle of Decatur. Really hair raising stuff. Even more dangerous...you have Monsanto on one side and 3M on the other with Daikin in the middle.

Not to mention the railway bridge that runs pretty close to Keller Memorial Bridge that crosses the TN River.

Daiken is a factory that makes injection molded plastics. It is 5.5 miles from Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant.

Today, uncharacteristically, the wind is blowing directly towards Brown’s Ferry.

That’s why...when I hear people in my town complain about train whistles going through....I just laugh at them. Then kindly remind them what exactly they are pulling behind them and that I don’t mind those warning whistles at all. They shut up pretty quick. I live 1/4 a mile from the main RRX-ing and see what they pull every day.

In the process of trying to find new sources, I found that there was a “major” fire inside the Nichols aluminum plant this morning - not more than a mile down highway 20 from the access road to Daiken/3M/Amoco.
