Not a whole ton of Irish anymore in the Chicago Police. Not like the old days when I was growing up.
I think it is very rare a male Caucasian can make rank anymore, remember we have Affirmative Action on our testing for Fire Dept and Police Dept. Extra points for minority, which means a white male who scores 100% can be beat by a minority who scores 80%, and I think I read a female minority by 70%. (don’t quote me on these percentages, it’s something along those lines, and the unions let it happen, go figure).
We have a TON of black female police officers now (most are very heavy btw and short for some reason, not sure how they pass their PT tests).
Not so many “micks”. Well, except the mounted cops downtown, I never see a black cop mounted on horseback. No idea why that is.
A common complaint heard is there are too many petite women on the fire department, and they can’t remove sick or elderly from a home, with just one partner, they don’t have the strength for stairs and stuff, so they have to have an extra FF or EMT on hand, by union rules, adding one more to the payroll. Don Wade several years ago talked about females in the Fire Tests, and they only had to do push-ups from the knees, carry hoses half distances, and stuff like that.
Not a sexist or a racist here, just stuff I see on the local news and hear on the local radio stations.
