Memoirs of a Soldier - This Week on Gun Talk Radio

Mandeville, LA - It's the memoirs of a combat correspondent, an announcement of new ammunition for 2014, a gun rights documentary on DVD, and more, this week on Tom Gresham's Gun Talk® Radio, the original nationally-syndicated radio talk show about guns and the shooting sports.

Lieutenant Colonel Robert K. Brown USAR (Ret.) founded Soldier of Fortune magazine with content fueled by his storied career as a soldier, and as a combat correspondent and an investigative journalist. Brown recently released his memoirs, I am Soldier of Fortune: Dancing with Devils, which gives a first-person account of his world-wide travels into war zones, conflicts and uprisings. He visits with Tom on Sunday to talk about his memoirs, the magazine, and more. Purchase his memoirs on Amazon.com here: amzn.to/1aUjW94 and check out the Soldier of Fortune magazine here: http://www.sofmag.com.

Barnes Bullets is known for their high-performance, lead-free bullets and ammunition. Marketing and Product Manager Jessica Brooks-Stevens drops by Sunday with the first announcement of the new Barnes products for 2014! Visit Barnes at http://www.barnesbullets.com/.

Director Kris Koenig also stops in on Sunday to discuss his documentary, Assaulted: Civil Rights Under Fire, a film that asks the audience "to rethink the issues surrounding gun control, and the effect on civil rights and liberty". With funding help from a 2012 Kickstarter campaign, Koenig released the film in select markets this year. Now "Assaulted" is available on DVD from Amazon, and as a digital download via iTunes, Google Play, Xbox, and Vudu. Visit www.AssaultedFilm.com for more information.

It's the last few days to enter to win the Optics Planet Lights and Lasers giveaway at Gun Talk (http://www.opticsplanet.com)! Visit http://www.guntalk.com/win through November 29th for a chance to win a Universal Rail Master Laser Sight and Universal Rail Master Light from Crimson Trace (http://www.crimsontrace.com).

The swag they ship with a order is really cool. A quality LaRue Tactical hat, some BBQ rub, 2 cool bumper stickers, and absolutely the coolest bottle opener I’ve ever seen.

Evenin' Dude! Got a little data to share regarding shredded rubber bullet traps.

I tested today to see what penetration to expect from the hredded rubber used as a back stop for my garage range. Using a cat litter plastic bucket 14 inches deep, I placed paper markers at the 4 and 8 inch depths as I filled the bucket with shredded rubber chips ... not nuggets, shreds. Atop the rubber I placed a Cheaper Than Dirt (gougers that the are now) catalog then the plastic bag emptied of rubber bits.

At ten feet I fired a CCI Stinger, then a 22 Winchester dynapoint magnum, then a 73 grain 32 acp, then a 124 ball 9mm into the rubber filled bucket. The .22 rounds made it past the 4 inch paper but disintegrated before reaching 8 inches. The 32 acp Fiocchi made it just past the 8 inch paper and was found in tact, while the 9mm ball made it to 12 inches and had a slight deformation where it hit perhaps one of the .22 rounds or the 32 acp jacketed round.

I'm going to build my backstop 4' x 5' x 18 inches deep, on a casters frame so it can be rolled out of the way when not in use. The frame will raise the stopper18 inches off the garage floor and there will be a panel in the end that will allow higher caliber rounds to be test fired into the long-way shredded rubber. The face of the stop will not be shot unless there's a flier when shooting at the 12" x 12" x 12" steel bullet trap in front of the stop.

Thought folks might like to know what kind of performance to expect from the shredded rubber bullet trapping system.
