The Food and Drug Administration has ordered Google-backed genetic test maker 23andMe to halt sales of its personalized DNA test kits, saying the company has failed to show that the technology is supported by science.

If you've got a 23andMe account you can download your raw data here.

There's a discussion about this on Slashdot, with many highly rated posts supporting the FDA's action against 23andMe, that is rather timely since Rush mentioned on his show yesterday about left-wing politics bleeding into tech geek media.

Speaking of science: is marijuana as medicine supported by science?

I’m taking a Biology course right now and we’re in the genetics section right now.

It’s amazing the number of bad traits folks are walking around with right now.

All it takes is the right combination.........

Whose palm did this company fail to grease?

"Nice company you got here. It'd be a shame if something were to happen to it."

Remember what happened to Gibson.

Considering the source of their funding- Google- you would think the FDA would be advised to back away.

BTW- $99 for such a treasure trove of potentially life-saving information is the deal of the century.

Thanks.
So far as I can tell from the press accounts, there is nothing different about this company’s genetics testing service than several other firms’ testing services, except 23andMe is offering a lower price.
(We had testing by another company and the results were quite interesting and worthwhile. We were able to bring some information to our doctors that is helping in our health care now.) It would appear that Obama wants to make sure Americans pay as much as possible for our health care and health services (Obamacare raising millions and millions of people’s premiums, cancelling millions of other people’s health insurance so that they will have to pay cash out of their pockets for their care, and now this attempt to deny Americans the best, lowest price on basic genetics information — forcing us to spend a lot more for the same service from the higher-priced competitors.)

New Obama Campaign Slogan:

“Pay More. Pay a Lot More. Get Less. Beg us for it! And Drop Dead if you don’t like it!”

Gene Nix of Gibson was on the ground in Madagascar and emailed back that there was no legal source of Madagascar ebony. Gibson chose to buy its Ebony from Roger Thunam, a convicted lumber trafficker. Nix knew that Thunam's ebony was under seizure by the Malagasy government.

Gibson's hands weren't clean in that transaction.

Just wait till the IPAB gets up and running with final and absolute say over what gets approved for use in health care in this country. Will be a one-stop shopping center for graft and corruption on a heretofore unimaginable scale.

Nobody has clean hands. Everything is against the law (alles ist verboten). We’re all only a bureaucrat’s whim away from being arrested by armed federal agents.

The FDA and EPA are out of control. Unelected bureaucrats have been given WAY too much power.
