Situational awareness. If you're wandering around in the urban chimp zone, or blundering around in public, eyes glued to your smart phone, blissfully ignorant of what's going around you, then you get what you deserve.

By being aware of your surroundings, you can hopefully avoid the situation altogether, and if not, prepare to defend yourself or run. It stands to reason that if your simian assailant(s) knows you're on to him, he/they'll move on to other, unsuspecting targets. If he/they keep coming, then hopefully you have something with a little punch in your pocket, and can play the Double-Tap game with him/them.
