It seems to me that one recycled car battery would provide enough lead for one person for a lifetime. 40 or 50 pounds.

No smelting, just melting....

I cast my own. There still seems to be plenty of lead available from the metal suppliers at a reasonable price.

I believe Doe Run was the last PRIMARY lead smelter, not the last lead smelter.

It converted raw ore into metals, not recycling and recovering lead from scrap.

I think we still have other companies that do that here.

For now.

IMHO, we are very close to an electromagnetic technology that allows lethal rounds to be fired with only the current from a lithium ion battery.

My son has such a toy that can rip a coke can to shreds from 30 feet. It uses plastic 6mm pellets. It’s also full auto... And it’d not even a “gun”. It’s a toy.

There was a posting here the other day about 3D printing with sintered metals suck as Inconel and tungsten. Bullets of exotic design should be possible too.

The highly progressive state of California recently passed a law that lead ammo is banned for sporting use.

No they didn't, it's a ban on hunting use (phased). While that still bugs me, it pisses me off that our side uses 'Rat style "fudge factor" reporting to hype subjects too because instead of just getting some straight dope, you have to do a bunch of research legwork yourself so you don't look like an idiot if you want to mention or bring the topic up further...

I have plenty of factory made ammo. I also have 20 lb of lead, a smelter, bullet molds, brass, primers, and 2 reloading presses.

I’m thinking Col. Allen West will be a very good Cabinet Secretary of the DoD. Luv the way this guy thinks and he doesn’t pander to anyone.

We just need Conservatives to control the WH, Senate and House. That dream is growing as more and more States are filling their elected positions with GOPs who are right of center at lower levels like City Councils, Mayors, State Legislatures, etc.

Back to topic... junk yards must be full of old cars with lead balance weights on wheels. What about all of the lead weights used by fishermen and duck hunters (for their decoys)? ....Old houses in the 1940s and earlier used lead weights on each side of each window (I grew up in one built in ‘43). ...........Just sayin’ that there are many sources of lead out there, if a person thinks about it...
I don’t see lead availability drying up.

The future Conservative GOP control of Congress should ABOLISH the EPA and Energy depts. for their wasteful spending of taxpayers’ dollars on frivolous projects and regulations. That would also include stoppage of using food (corn) to produce the ridiculous Ethanol and the requirement for low sulfur diesel fuel; both of which are damaging autos, semis and small gas engines.

Sorry for the long rant but thoughts just kept coming as I was typing. I know I got off topic inre LEAD, but the thread just caused me to think about bad regulations.

This shutdown of bullet production is just the kind of thing that RINOs DON’T reverse when they take office.

If we ever have another President, and if it’s a Republican, watch to see if he allows lead smelting and ammo production to resume in the U.S.
