remember when I was growing up, New York was a rough-and-tumble place where attitudes of racial animosity ran parallel to the perceptions of black-on-white crime. And despite a robust, national civil rights movement, there were feelings that blacks were almost exclusively responsible for gangs, prostitution and heroin addiction.
Back in the ’60s and ’70s, believe it or not, as a young black man I too had concerns about crime being perpetrated upon me. I recall how to cross Central Park, my buddies and I would sprint top speed from Central Park West to the Fifth Avenue on the East Side without stopping. We knew that would not only get us across unmolested, but the sight of a two or three black men running through the park would make anybody steer clear.
During that time it was not a question of race, but that anybody entering the park alone at night stood a good chance of getting his or her ass kicked.
But come one fateful day in 1989 when a white woman was raped and four black men and one Hispanic man was accused of “wilding,” we no longer sprinted for fear we would get shot by police or arrested on general principal. Innocent as we were, as young black men we were painfully aware of trying not to look guilty — of anything. That was the difference between getting arrested or getting shot.
Let’s fast forward to 1997 to Abner Louima, who was sodomized with a toilet plunger handle in a police precinct or Amadou Diallo who in 1999 died in a hail of 41 shots fired by members of the now defunct “Street Crimes Unit.” Or Sean Bell, shot dead in a hail of police bullets on his wedding day.....

That is a very smart and concise analogy. Even a leftist moron ‘might’ be able to understand it.
The media, including Fox, constantly refers to Trayvon as “unarmed.” Yes, but he was attempting to arm himself with George Zimmerman’s gun, and if he had succeeded he would have killed Zimmerman with it.
I grew up without a father in the home and mom was away working at night. We were far from rich, and we lived in a pretty poor part of town, but we got by alright and my mom never took a penny of public assistance and she got no child support from my dad.
My two brothers and I were left to look after ourselves from a young age. None of us kids grew up wanting to cause pain and injury to anyone, ever. We are contributing members of society.
It’s not so much the lack of good parenting as much as it is sheer hatred for whitey at play here, IMO. It’s racism and it better stop before they start going too far.
Only a small fraction of the black population engages in behavior like the knock-out game, but the effect of articles like this is to make white Americans suspect that all black people hate them automatically because they are white. I don't think that was part of what MLK dreamed of in his most famous speech.

I think it’s lousy that good, young, black men carry that stigma. And they do. The question the author should rethink is, who is to blame? Obviously, the only answer he can think of is: whitey. Maybe there’s a different and more accurate answer.
The Thugs are profiling people, and its easy they wear Yamakas, and stars of David. They wear black coats and white shirts.
If NYPD can’t send decoys out there dressed up as Lebovitz
Jews and hope that they are attacked so as to catch the Racist Thugs, then all hell will break out.
Even non violent folks will not let their kin get killed and injured without retribution.
This is a lawless country, and the government spared no effort going after Zimmerman but where are they now?

I disregard Zimmerman’s claims that St Trayvon grabbed for the gun or said he was going to kill him. Those strike me as convenient justifications used to bolster the “I feared for my life” defense. There is no evidence to support those claims.
The Zimmerman case was unusual in that there were so many other sources of information, even if not for the last few moments before he fired the gun.
When the policeman lied to Zimmerman and said that it had all been captured on video, Zimmerman was relieved believing that he would be cleared.
He’s saying that [inherently] racist whitey is using this as an excuse.
ah, but one of the very deepest core tenets of “liberalism” is that there won’t be, and shouldn’t be, consequences for your choices and actions.
This goes back to the founding of liberalism - “you will surely not die”.

It’s been a year since someone actually tried to jump me, then a few months ago I was set up for “the game”, I believe, but the player lost his nerve.
The feeling of being overdue sharpens the attention.
I have no delusions that most blacks are criminals, however, they are sadly more likely to be criminals than the general population, and that’s not racial bias, that’s just reality. I don’t think most black kids are going to just punch strangers in the head for no reason, but I do know 70% of them grow up without a father in the home which means they are far more likely to get involved in gangs and trouble.
Until black america decides to restore their families, these facts won’t change, and as long as these facts are true, you can’t blame others for using a more jaundiced eye when they know nothing about you other than one’s race. That’s sad reality.
Cold Hard Facts:
Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to commit robbery.
Blacks are three times more likely to use a hand gun, and twice more likely to use a knife.
Hispanics commit three times more violent crimes than whites
Blacks are 39 times more likely to commit a violent crime against whites then vice versa, and 136 times more likely to commit a robbery.
Forty-five percent of black crime is against whites, 43 against other blacks, and 10 percent against Hispanic.
Blacks are seven times more likely to go to prison, Hispanics three times.
The best indicator of violent crime levels in an area is the percent of the population that is black and Hispanic.

By your logic anyone could say they were threatened with deadly force and use that to justify killing someone. Suspects lie, or misperceive things in the heat of the moment so there has to be evidence other than a hearsay threat. In this particular case there was physical evidence of an attack sufficient to support death or great bodily injury. People who are familiar with self defense laws know what keywords to use in statements to the police. Zim was clearly justified in his actions but sometimes people put some frosting on the cake just to be sure they wont be charged.
It would be nice to read of a corollary to the “Knock-out Game”.
I call it the “driver panic game”. Some driver is so panicked by witnessing a “knock-out game” that he/she loses control of their car and runs over the “Knock-Out” gamsters.
In a further panic over what happens, the driver backs over the mangled bodies of the “knock-out” gamsters.
I’m sure it could happen. Witnessing one of these attacks could be that traumatic, don’t you think?
Sounds like Will needs to be “treated” to a knock-out game.
I should not have posted that without stating that it was just Zimmerman's version of events. I think it is probably true, but to my knowledge there is no video or additional eyewitness account that confirms it.
