The communists believed in “first among equals” - the first were Party members and their families, who had special “State stores’ where they could buy western gourmet foods. The “equals’ were the hoi polloi, who had to eat the garbage produced by collective farms and live in communal apartments. The children of the “first among equals” were admitted to the finest Russian colleges (Moscow U, St. Petersburg U) and were exempt from conscription. Don’t believe that “I’ve got mine, Jack” and the don’t give a damn attitude about the common folks (the American middle class) doesn’t prevail in the upper echelons of the Demo party (and to a slightly lesser extent, in the Republican party (at least they unanimously OPPOSED this stinking fiasco.
