When I was about four years old, my eight yr. old brother shot me in the face with his BB gun. Luckily the BB hit and buried itself in my nose instead of an eye.

So, we go to a near town to the doctor and he takes out the BB in my nose. That was it. If that happened today, my brother would be put in jail and charged with intent to kill and his BB gun would be confiscated for evidence. It was an accident but it wouldn’t be today and he would be branded a near killer the rest of his life. Today, I guess the school, even though it didn’t happen at school, would expel him forever.

In those days, a BB gun was a nothing, almost considered a toy and I shot it along with my brother. It was what you did.

lol! I was a 12y/o brother who shot a 4y/o sister with a Daisy single-shot. I’d had the gun for years and was just trying to see if it worked (we usually carried the BBs in our mouths and just spit them into the gun after each shot, so the gun was rusted up).

Was standing in the hallway of our small house. When I cocked the gun and was closing it, it fired... straight down the hallway about 15ft. and hit little sis just above the nose, right between her eyes. She was lying in bed and facing the hallway. Scared hell out of me, because I had saved and bought a Daisy pump repeater that was many times more powerful that that old break-down single shot; that gun would have really hurt her bad.

She screamed, I screamed, Mom screamed, there was just a little blood from breaking the skin (the BB-gun was well used and weak). It did leave a little BB-sized dent.

(I resisted the urge to say we all screamed for ice cream)
I left for the Navy 6 years later and when I came home after one year, the little scar was gone. Mom had the Dr. do something to take care of that little dent.

Yeah, I took a BB in the temple. Still have a little circular scar. I don’t think I even bothered telling my parents.
