You mean like all those “liberal” soldiers that were recognized in 2003 when “The American Soldier” was selected instead of one individual person. The awards plays no favorites. The person who has generated the most news coverage usually wins it every time. Hell, George Bush won it for invading Iraq.

There's no way the Pope generated more news coverage or actually changed the course of world events or human activity more than Snowden. If we had kept our old Pope another year, what world events or human activity would have turned out any different this year?
