HOLOGRAM? Physicists believe our universe could just be a projection of another cosmos
Dailymail ^

Posted on 12/12/2013 10:03:53 AM PST by chessplayer

The universe is a hologram and everything you can see - including this article and the device you are reading it on - is a mere projection.

This is according to a controversial model proposed in 1997 by theoretical physicist Juan Maldacena.

Until now the bizarre theory had never been tested, but recent mathematical models suggest that the mind-boggling principle could be true.

In a larger sense, the theory suggests that the entire universe can be seen as a 'two-dimensional structure projected onto a cosmological horizon' - or in simpler terms, the universe we believe we inhabit is a 3D projection of a 2D alternate universe.

do these people get paid for “developing” these theories?

Oh, yes. That's where your child's college tuition money is going. Who cares if there is no experimental evidence?

And to make matters worse, even in the sciences universities purge folks who don't believe in the theories pushed by the full professors.

So if the physics department chair is a proponent of string theory (of which, by the way, there is no experimental evidence) and you are not a string theorist, forget about getting tenure.

I try hard to never be outrightly dismissive of any abstract thought, but my personal perspective at this point is that I feel pain, emotional and otherwise, and so do so many of the people I know. The world is full of emotions, and I don't see these as holographic reflections. Yeah, it's just another way to say “I think, therefore I am”, but it's just the way I see the world, the universe(s) and whatever constitutes the reality of our existence.

I have no doubt, however, that irrespective of the mechanics, dynamics, and structure of the universe(s), we exist and it/they exist for a reason - and that reason is of the ultimate importance.

I promise that there was no scotch involved in that reply.

Another way of putting this is that the universe is a construct, made of several different semi-universes, each of which contributes a part.

For example, one semi-universe might provide the organizational framework used by ours, something like what is a triangle, and how is it different from a square and a circle?

Another semi-universe might provide a framework for the difference between forces that pull and forces that push.

“Surprisingly, the computer calculations of the theoretical universe and the black hole’s boundaries matched, providing what some say is ‘compelling’ evidence of the dual nature of the universe.”

Garbage in, garbage out.

I thought to prove something you had to prove it is false.

Anyway, I think everything in this created world is a projection of the spiritual world of the One True God. Lots of hints you can’t ignore, especially if you are a physicist.

The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbot.

Not a brand new concept. Read this back in the early ‘90s.

Sounds like the games we used to play with “I think, therefore I am,” in Philosophy class. That desk is not really there until you try and walk through it, stupid.

This is just as credible as many of Stephen Hawking’s postulates and ramblings. It would fail most competent grad level studies serious papers. Most things from a few decades ago were presented with faulty logic but that was acceptable back then. Hawking’s gets away with it because of his name and his competency in mathematics but when he delves into other areas it is just pure speculation and most of it based on faulty suppositions or logic. Btw, no Christians thought the Earth was flat in history and certainly no scientists or educated or even uneducated for that matter. It has been clearly demonstrated that this whole line of thinking was put forward in the 19th century by a few bitter anti-Christian historians or philosophers much in the same way as every later generation puts down the previous ones as ignorant. The people who who perpetrate and continue this myth are the real ignorant ones.

Forget the models. Real observations indicate it’s probably not true.

Well..., I guess the Moon wasn’t really there until we walked on it.

I have no idea why this model makes sense to them.

Does it ever seem to you that the smarter folks get, the more stupid they become?

There you go. The flat earthers were right.

When I reach out in front of me, there’s actually no depth to my reality. When I drive from here to the relative’s home, I’ve really not gone anywhere. It’s all a projection.

Traveling to the moon was no accomplishment. We could have taken one step and been there. Soon space exploration is going to be so much easier.

HOGWASH!

And in that other universe "...you didn't make that..." either.

Of course they get paid by research grants.
Most of this is useless research but it lets professors play without being held to much review.

For instance: The search for earth like planets.
According to current guidelines, Venus, Earth and Mars would all meet these qualifications.

Now we KNOW that life on anywhere on Venus would be impossible (90x atmosphere pressure and 900deg temp) as would Mars on the surface (nearly a vacuum and no magnetic field to protect from radiation)

Yet, scientists are paid to find earth like planets without ever being able to KNOW if they are earth like.

“Sounds like the Men In Black movies.”

Reminds me of Animal House where Donald Sutherland tries to convince the boys, prior to smoking weed for the first time, that a whole universe maybe under their fingernails.
