ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A federal appeals court on Friday removed a temporary ban on domestic horse slaughter, clearing the way for companies in New Mexico, Missouri and Iowa to open while an appeal of a lawsuit by animal protection groups proceeds.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver lifted the emergency injunction it issued in November after The Humane Society of the United States and others appealed the ruling of a federal judge in Albuquerque. The judge said the U.S. Department of Agriculture followed proper procedure in issuing permits to Valley Meat Co. in Roswell, N.M., Rains Natural Meats of Gallatin, Mo., and Responsible Transportation in Sigourney, Iowa.

Does anyone unfamiliar with horses and their care realize the amount of over the counter medications available to the average horse owner with which they can medicate their horses to keep them healthy and sound? The varieties of medications that read “Not For Use in Animals Used For Human Consumption”?? Is anyone familiar with the variety of parasite/dewormer medications that a horse is fed throughout it’s lifetime to rid it’s gut of damaging worms/parasites? Why would anyone even risk consuming horsemeat in a country where horses aren’t raised for consumption, they are basically companion animals? As a horse owner, there is no way I would ever feed horsemeat to another animal let alone a human! Yuck!

“As a horse owner, there is no way I would ever feed horsemeat to another animal let alone a human!”

Nor would I, but that’s my choice. If someone else wants to eat it, that’s their choice. I don’t smoke either but I sure don’t give a rats ass if someone else does it. Zoos feed horsemeat to tigers and lions, do you think horse slaughter for the zoo market should be banned?

God put life in the animals (especially the ones spoken of in Genesis as having souls, or nephesh, which includes horses)

What chapter and verse is this spoken of in Genesis?

As a horse owner, it wouldn't bother me. It might make my horses listen better, if they understood that there are consequences...

My point being, the average Joe has no clue what horses are dr’d with and should be informed. Should horses be fed to zoo animals??? Not if they are a chemical stew with years of de-wormer, bute, tranquilizers and the multitude of other medications that horse owners may give their horses to keep them healthy and sound.....but that’s my opinion. Horses raised for consumption are one thing, horses slaughtered from the #10 Kill Pen at any auction are another...........

You better start calling all the zoos that buy horsemeat from Dallas Crown and tell them the meat they buy is a “chemical stew of bute, horse wormer, etc.” But I bet they already know that. If people in other countries want to eat that crap, fine by me. If you think the buyers don’t already know, you’re living in a dream world.
